She has advocated for the rights of black people and minorities within her community. She has lectured and educated on topics related to African and African-American history. And I bet that both the NAACP and the media will eventually reveal more of what she has done for her local community.
That doesn't take away from the work that's being/been done by many others (Black, Latino, white, etc.). And it does not take away from the fact that she posed as someone with a racial heritage that is not hers. She may need to explain her choices and actions, but she should not be made into some laughing stock for the amusement of people who do nothing more than troll on the Internet and pray to their particular deities for the release of R8 or rubbish of that sort.

This woman dedicates her life to furthering the same cause that so many people on this site stand for, and they completely dismiss her as nothing but a laughing stock. It's so easy to feed into the majority so quickly, and one would think that at least some people would try to be more sympathetic of situations like this. This woman deserves to learn from her mistakes, not be reduced to the point of dehumanization.

I want to be mad at her, but I don't. Like, we totally look down on black people who try to become white, so what's the difference? Minorities shame our own for their self-hatred, so why should she get a pass? IDK. It's weird but makes for a very interesting debate.

i honestly have no issue with her bc like someone already said, she did a lot of great things for the black community. she just wanted to be down with us
i'm waiting on her explanation

Don't have a problem with her looking that was. If that is what she likes, more power to her.
It is the pretending to be black and lying that bothers me.

It's just crazy to me because she literally didn't have to do this.
Black Americans pretended to be white all the back in the day because being white was 100% easier(Self hatred could have also played a factor), but she legit has no reason. She could have done all her good work as a white woman.

She faked hate crimes against herself, though. That's the weird part.
In her attempts to build her credibility as a supposed black woman and member of the NAACP she sent herself racist letters and pretended they were by somebody else.

I haven't read all the articles, but do we KNOW she sent them to herself? Or are we just assuming they were.
I mean. She could pass as black, and it doesn't sound out of the realm of possibility that someone could have acted racist towards her?

she didn't get a pass , though. people are shaming her just like they would to a black person who try to become white as you claimed.

Assuming of course. Either way, as i said earlier, the fact that she pretended her adopted brother was her biological son is very messy

Yes, she said that she got the letter in her post office box. When a postal service person analyzed the envelope there was no trace of the time stamp or marking that is on every piece of mail that goes through the post office. That means nobody actually sent the letter to her mail box. She lied about getting it in the mail and most likely just sat at home and wrote herself a racist letter, sealed it, and then opened it. From there she took it to authorities and reported it as a hate crime.
If she's thorough enough to pretend to be black for years, forging a hate letter to herself is pretty easy.

And now her work and credibility is overshadowed by this. She should see a mental health professional.

That is very weird. But, couldn't that letter have been simply dropped directly into her mailbox (without having to go through the P.O.)? That would explain the lack of a time stamp. I mean, that's how we all get pizza/Chinese restaurant ads and chain letters. We will probably hear more about this.
