The title track from Gwen's second album is one of her only solo efforts that also feels like it could be a No Doubt record. Written by Akon, it was blocked from the top of the Billboard Hot 100 by his own "Don't Matter," though it went on to become one of the biggest hits of the year—and Gwen's career. Five years later, those woo hoos still pack an invigorating punch. Perhaps the Curse of Collaborations doomed it in this rate?
A staggering accomplishment of camp genius. Wynonna goes off the rails on a crazy train, which then takes flight on the wings of a bluesy electric guitar and gospel guitar. Yet she also taps into the ludicrous premise of "I Want to Know What Love Is" with such a sense of primal urgency that she finds something remarkably real there. It's the greatest, cheesiest version of this great, cheesy '80s power ballad I've ever heard, including Foreigner's original.
