American Life is neither trend-setting nor trendy (they're opposite terms). It inspired no followers (Ray of Light / COADF), and it didn't do what the rest of music was doing (Hard Candy). It's an island of perfection.
Is this supposed to contradict what I said earlier or something
Not throughout her whole career, but she didnt always set them. For example, with COADF, she just brought back the dance craze...it had already been quite trendy for a long while but she brought it back into the MAINSTREAM.
What? COADF is one of her most clever moments. Even Kylie hadn't done such a dance-driven album like that. A better example would've been Bedtime Stories, when she took Mariah's producers.
According Madonnarama, she will be singing the very first single – a never-heard-before song co-produced by Martin Solveig – from her forthcoming album. The track is called "Give Me All Your Love" and it’s a very catchy tune.

I never said it wasnt a clever moment or anything like that, I was just pointing out that it wasnt exactly a trend she set. IMO, she brought the dance craze back into the mainstream...
