Pixie Lott to headline BBC Radio 1's Teen Awards 2011
Pop star Pixie Lott has been confirmed as the headline act for this year's BBC Radio 1 Teen Awards.
She will also sit on the judging panel selecting three Teen Heroes, chosen from nominations put forward by Radio 1's listeners.
The singer, 20, said: "I'm thrilled to be not just performing at this year's event but also getting involved in selecting this year's Teen Heroes."
The Teen Awards take place at London's Wembley Arena on 9 October.
The event is open to 14 to 17-year-olds and tickets will be given away free to Radio 1 listeners.
Further acts will be added to the line-up and details of how to get hold of tickets will be revealed soon.
'Amazing things'
Nominations for this year's Teen Heroes can be submitted at the Teen Awards site until 5pm on Tuesday 31 August.
Nominees should be aged between 12 and 17.
Pixie Lott says, after last week's riots in England, it will be good to hear positive things about young people.
"I'm going to be able to hear all these inspirational stories and get to meet teens who have done amazing things," she said.
"Everyone's kind of being a bit negative about youth and young people, so it's a good time to actually celebrate all the good ones out there.
"Obviously there are a lot of teens out there doing amazing things, which are the stories we're going to hear, so I think it's really important that we celebrate the youth and keep them positive."
Radio 1 listeners will also get the chance to vote for awards for top stars from the world of music and entertainment.
Categories include best British album, best British TV show, best British actor and British young sports star.
Voting opens later this month.
