How was the promo not Major? It was online internet promo 101. Promo doesn't just include TV appearances. We live in a DIGITAL age hun. Her people were working the social networks like no other. Ads, twitter trending campaigns, her youtube channel was relasing like 50 million snippets to that video to build suspense. Not to mention before the single leaked they kept leaking little info like no other. To keep the public interested. Not to mention the radios were playing the single non stop like no other on it's debut. (Payola much? Yes, DJ's were REQUIRED to play that single every hour on the hour for it's debut. Same with Lady gaga..I remember people calling into Kiss Fm here in LA complaining about them playing it all the time, and the DJ said they HAD too.)
And most artist release 2 singles before album release. Is this something brand new?
And yes, Circus bombed promo wise. It still sold decent, but Britney could of done much more with that album. But that album was just to prove to people she was back and "sane" looking. Hence why she shot straight to tour. Everything about that era was strictly branding.
