Well, although the ratings dipped, there was like... 10x more Streams so I guess it just goes to show that people are streaming it more the day of and the day after than actually watching it.
This year's VMAs were a bit boring and predictable. None of the artists that keep us on our toes were performing. Beyonce was the highlight of the show, but we've all come to expect amazing singing and dancing from her so it was nothing too new or shocking - which imo is what the VMAs are about.
It could also be that there's too many friggin award shows. AMAs, Billboard, iHeartRadio, VMAs, Grammys, BET. That's enough for 1 show every 2 months. It's not very exciting when you see the same people on every show.
The hosts were terrible, the show was way too long, they didn't announce the most important performer until the day of, even though the stan world knew. TBH, I don't see the ratings ever going back up. Y'all like to say streaming is the future, welp, that's the only increase there was.
Honestly, no controversy no ratings.
Even though last years ratings were sad, Taylor Vs Nicki, Taylor Vs Kanye and Miley helped bring in attention, this year i wouldn't have watched if Ari wasn't attending. Big names don't attract people anymore, not unless controversy surrounds them.
