I'm perfectly fine. Actually well put together. Its not my fault y'all are so offended by a hypothetical question and hypothetical answer.
My dog is my responsibility and I'm going to take care of her.
It's not even fathomable to assume I would be in this situation ever though. I mean, me, my dog, and some random ass child in some random ass lake or whatever and this child's parents are nowhere to be found. OK.
Y'all are getting so emotional. And none of it matters to me because I'm still saving my dog and feeding her a ton of Milk bones after its over because she's surely going to be stressed from her near death experience. If these hypothetical parents paid more attention to their hypothetical child, s/he wouldn't have drowned. Not. My. Issue.

Drag them
Anyway, I'd say my dog, if I had the opportunity I'd save the stranger's kid but I have my priorities and one stranger's life over my dog's isn't one.

The child. A dog can easily be replaced.

If the hypothetical child doesn't know how to swim, that's not my fault. I'd toss him a safety tube and wish him luck as I save my cat.

I mean, how did this child even end up alone, unable to swim, in some lake or whatever? People should be more concerned about the lack of supervision from the parents.
A dog can be replaced. And so can a child. Maybe a lesson will be learned. You let the last child die, maybe you'll be more careful with the next.

My own dog... I have enough common sense to know not to save a stranger's dog because I don't know if the thing has rabies, or is crazy.

Yes, because that's a reason to let somebody die
Again: Dogs life- 8-12 years
Humans Life- 75-80 years
More important and valuable: human life.

I read this entire thread.
I can't believe people could genuinely let a human child drown. They shouldn't have to suffer because of the negligence of their caretakers.
I understand the argument that a dog can be family to you, but at the end of the day saving that dog only benefits you. Saving a child makes you a hero in the eyes of many. This new movement about animal lives being equal to humans is sweet, and yes I agree we shouldn't devalue the existence of animals, but a human child has much more of a right to live than a domesticated canine.
I choose the baby.

It doesn't have to be about being a hero. I have two dogs, both of whom I have raised since they were barely weaned puppies and are now 5 and 6 respectively. Would I seriously regret not being able to save someone else's kid? Yes, honestly, I'd love to save everyone involved - but you're sitting down there judging people for saving their dogs. Like I didn't just spend 6 years ensuring this creature survives, caring for this living being and giving it love AND receiving love in return, all the money I spent to make sure those dogs survived anytime they fell ill, the time when my dog was pregnant and I was so nervous that she wouldn't even make it through labor.
Like it or not, dogs become a big part of your family - and telling someone they're wrong for choosing a member of their family over a child because the child is human is heartless.
Does human life matter? Yes. But don't ask people to ignore the fact that dogs are living creatures who have been scientifically proven able to form attachments to humans. Dogs CAN be family - and if it were a choice between your baby and someone else's, no one would give you **** for choosing to save your own kid. It doesn't make you a bad person, it makes you a human being with emotions in a bad situation.

My dog. Where are the child's parents?
I'm sorry y'all could say whatever you want but the death of my dog would personally affect our family terribly and end up in a terrible situation for all of us.
And we did NOT spend our money and time to train him and keep him healthy to see him die in a situation where I could save him.

Right? Like oh, sorry puppy in whom I have been emotionally invested for my entire adolescence, I have to go save someone else's kid whom I know nothing about but must cherish more than you because it's a human and I would be heartless if I didn't disregard my entire relationship with you for a child I barely even know.
