Britney Spears - Private Show
UGGGHHH I wanted to put this at like #98 as an F U to the haterz extremely badly, but of course I had to remember something even better at the last minute and boot it off. But on the real how she did wriggle her most lively performance in half a decade-plus out of the clutches of those comically robotic vocal layerings, genuinely lmk if you have the answer.
Jenny Hval - Female Vampire
Everything I read about the concept of this album was just
But you wouldn't know a thing just based
off the chillness of the lead single, something I could see myself getting lost in very easily upon further listens.
DIIV - Is the Is Are
IDK man, but again I love the swirls!
GFOTY - Mr. E
Like I said earlier there's so little overlap between this and the conventional PC Music 'sound,' but
if that's what needs to happen for them to keep moving forward then I'm so on board.
The Lonely Island - Finest Girl (Bin Laden Song)
This movie was so hysterical, and full-stop nothing else in film, TV or
music all year was as quotable as the best of its soundtrack.
That ass!
NxWorries - Livvin
Skirting around the 1 track per lead artist rule that I had to enact just a tad, but if anyone this year deserved to have an exception made for them it was Anderson .P. Like "Juicy" re-imagined over a Madlib beat with a trace amount of added casual misogyny, just so titanic and wonderful.
Saba f/ Noname - Church / Liquor Store
Most literal hook of '16, and two of its brightest new stars shining brightly all around it.
Little Mix - Shout Out to My Ex
In practice not really a song about being over your ex at all, but most definitely one to shout along with
at the top of your lungs when you need to convince yourself that yes, that's how you're feeling.
The Range - Florida
A beautiful and sparkling re-imagining of someone's amateur low-stakes/high-stakes YouTube
cover of Ariana's "You'll Never Know," sitting pretty at 2 milli Spotify streams and counting.
Dreezy - Spazz
Who ate this TF up? she did. More like this pls.
liv - Wings of Love
Lykke Li & others' new side project brought the Fleetwood vibes hard.
Miike Snow f/ Charli XCX - For U
Are they part of the liv group too? I don't remember atm, but the Charli & RTJ collabs off their own album forced
back some nice memories of their side-by-side slayage in 2014. Hope next year is more of the same.
