If Beyoncé maintains her success, she'll go down as THE ultimate popstar, period.

Do you people even know what it means to be a pop star? It's more than just being able to sing, dance, and perform. It's an all-inclusive sum of the artist. If you take into account EVERYTHING, the obvious choice is Janet.
She has been in the industry going on 40 years in 2013, longer than all the other options sans Diana. You can demerit Janet based on her not being the greatest singer, but it's negligible in the grand scheme of the argument. Out of the list, Janet is the most successful. Her albums are the most acclaimed (Control - TVR). Her video catalog is the most recognized, influential, made the most impact, and most the emulated. She's the most iconic out of the pool. Many artists have emulated her looks, i.e. Rihanna with the red hair a la Velvet Rope. She is the quintessential crossover Black female being an R&B act crossing over into pop, something Beyonce, Rihanna, and several other Black females are doing today. She wrote the book on performing, and it is because of Janet that if you don't dance, you're not a complete performer. It is because of Janet that Black females try to be triple threats (singer, dancer, actress), mind you Janet was the first. Unbeknown to many, Janet is a savvy businesswoman - lest we not forget she negotiated a $40 million and $80 million contract, co-owns a bank, owns her own publishing company, co-owns a line of Vodka, and just created Nutribank.
Being a multifaceted artist in Hollywood is the template Janet created, and the template Black females AND some males follow today. All of those acts are great (minus Rihanna), but when you factor EVERYTHING in, Janet is the only choice for being the ultimate Black female pop star.

It was like Tina with Ike then Diana Ross/Diana Summer/Tina (80's) then Janet, and now Beyonce.

Ok, I see.
But Beyonce is closer to Diana's & Tina's lane than she is to Janet's.

Donna Summers could NEVER put on a show like Janet. SIT DOWN GIRL. Donna couldn't even change her image or songs. She got lost in the disco era.
Whitney also never was as POP as Janet to me. Janet was essentially the biggest rubric for all the modern girls. Outside of just music.
- High Budget Performance with set changes, wardrobe changes, and the whole 9 yards.
- Advanced Synchornized Choreography
- Changing music styles album to album and genres.
- Transforming Image era to era
- Selling SEX
- Movies
- THE MUSIC VIDEO(No other black female before Janet had revolutionized the music video like Janet had)
- Whitney had the voice, but there was a lot she lacked in the pop department that Janet had. Her impact outside of her voice musically is minimal.
-Tina could perform her ass off, but her concerts and choreography is nowhere near Janet's. All she had going for her was hail mary. Then she turned rock.
Honestly, I'm surprised after Tina we haven't got anymore Black Women in Rock. Janet was the closest with Black Cat I guess.

Diana Ross is already a massive legend. And without her there would BE no Janet,Whitney, Beyonce, or Rihanna. She broke color barriers so that other black pop females could do pop.

So are you gonna act like my Aunt Donna didn't exist? I love Diana, but Donna is more important to the makings of a Black female pop star. And this is coming from someone who has studied both of them extensively.

Donna was huge, no doubt. But she was never as big as Diana, so Diana gets more credit.

Probably Whitney, just because she was so global. But Beyoncé is #2 for now.
Not how I personally feel, obviously. But it's how it is. I voted for Janet in the poll because I wasn't going to watch her lose to Rihanna.

No shade, but without Janet "Single Ladies" would not exist. That's how altered Beyonce would be.
And regardless of what Beyonce says, and you think, it is clear Janet IS Beyonce's main influence when you assess them both.
And yes, before Janet, there was Donna, who wasn't doing what Janet did.
Do you even know ANYTHING about Donna other than her record sales and number of top 10 hits?

Donna had a firm grip on EVERY Black female's wig from '75 - ~'80 with one hand, while sipping tea with the other. Diana gets more credit because of The Supremes. Her solo work isn't nearly as regarded as her work with the Supremes. Also, Donna is widely considered underrated and hasn't been given the full credit she deserves.

This is true.
But given her proper credit, Donna is up there.
