- Repackage "Teenage Dream," adding new music. In recent years, Rihanna rereleased "Good Girl Gone Bad," in its "Reloaded" form, tacking on new singles "Take a Bow" and "Disturbia," both of which topped the Hot 100. (As Billboard merged listings for the releases into one chart entry, they count, for historical purposes, as No. 1s from the same album as "Umbrella," the lead single from "Good"; similar to "Don't Forget About Us," which gave Mariah Carey a second No. 1 from "The Emancipation From Mimi," following "We Belong Together," after the album was reissued. If Capitol released a Perry album containing enough new material to chart as its own release, i.e., such bridge efforts as Ke$ha's "Cannibal" or Lady Gaga's "The Fame Monster," Billboard would not consider any singles from the set as from "Dream," but instead from that new album).

Umhmm.....Katy, releasing Peacock as a single is way easier than making a whole 'nother album. Just do that if u want another number one.

I don't understand what's going on, Billboard should at least address that they've clearly changed their rules.
GGGB: Reloaded had three new songs as well, and yet Disturbia & Take a Bow still counted towards GGGB's #1 total

This thread is ridiculous. They've been planning a re-release for around a year now. Rihanna was talking about it in interviews ages ago. They're not doing a re-release to break records, they're doing a re-release because it was a hugely popular and successful record and Katy writes tons of songs but only tags a few to go on the album. They released The One That Got Away because it was Katy's favourite song and hoped it would reach number 1. It didn't hit the top of the Billboards Hot100 chart, so they would be dropping the whole record breaking thing. Pretty sure all this "record-breaking" hype continuing now is only due to fans and trolls who won't stop talking about it. you guys are just arguing with yourselves, leave Katy outta this.

This rule change reminds me of what they did to Britney and Blackout.

The whole record-breaking thing was well over after LFN hit #1. Deep down, no one really expected TOTGA to replicate the major success of the previous 4 singles anyway. Capitol knew this for a long time. The reason for its release was due to the fact that it was convenient that she had a final single for the fourth quarter of 2011. It was also in high demand from the fans. The only reason the B.o.B remix came along was because the song itself actually came closer to #1 then they thought, so Capitol took the "why not" approach and went for it even though they couldn't really assure themselves that it would guarantee a 6th #1 single in the first place.
On to the re-release, Katy herself said she wishes to move on. She's proud of her achievements and is satisfied that she is tied with Michael Jackson. The fact that people want her to keep on going is a bit saddening. Wake up and realize that there is nothing left from the original album that would reach #1. Not only that, but people all say they want her to break Micheal's record, yet when her label does all that they can to do it, everyone labels her as "desperate". Katy isn't going to play that game anymore and she doesn't want to be attached to that stigma. Although I would of preferred a new album and era, there is no harm in scoring a few more hits from the re-release. It's probably better in the long run for her that it doesn't count towards 'Teenage Dream'.

Amen!
from MTV.com:
"This is the complete story of Teenage Dream," Perry said in a statement. "It was an incredible honor to tie the King of Pop's Billboard Hot 100 record, but I'm moving forward and had a few things left to get off my chest. So this is the complete special edition of my album for my fans."
