the past matters, like with MJ, her career will never reach the heights of the past ( late 90's early 2000's). she will still have fans that stick it through the patch but she will never be the biggest anymore. she cant sing.. nowdays we require that skill in our artists.. we where passive in the early 2000's with our funtart pop stars.. we now have seen new acts like lady gaga and our definition of a superstar has been redefined

Do we all really think that Britney for the general public stacks up to Rihanna and Lady GaGa these days? Because I have a grand total of zero anecdotes to support that view.

It honestly puzzles me why Britney is still relevant....why people still care for this girl. How her CD even managed to sell, how she still has fans.

She can't dance anymore.

She doesn't have the best vocals in the world.

When she talks, she's either too humble/quiet to say something of substance -- or too guarded to answer, or be asked honest questions.

Some say she doesn't even tweet her own stuff.

I've seen artists like Jessica Simpson and Nicole Sherrzzdididid--- sing their hearts out.....yet they aren't doing much music career wise.

Artists like Ciara can dance circles around Britney, yet she is nowhere to be found.

Christina Aguilera can give reporters a great soundbyte, yet her career is on thin-ice.



Why in the hell is Britney still around?

I'm sure Britney works hard and is passionate about her work, however...given Britney's passive approach to the Femme Fatale era, and lackluster persona as an entertainer...it just puzzles me how she continues to outlast her peers.

Well she used to be more relevant.

Stacks up in what sense? Rihanna isn't as big as B.Girl nor will she ever be as big as Britney or even accomplish half of what Britney did. With each generation/decade there's that one defining pop stars who's above all, before Madonna there was Cher, after Madonna came Britney, Gaga is huge right now, there HASN'T been a female pop star this big since Britney Spears and that is a fact. Britney isn't competing with these girls out, she's before them and ahead of the game because she's already established and EMBEDDED in pop culture and pop music and always will be just like Madonna and M.J. because those three, and only those three artists defined pop music while Britney redefined it. Gaga is great and I'm a fan, but she isn't doing anything we haven't seen before. M.I.A. told no lies when she said Gaga is a good copy cat.

I think he means the opposite. When she had the meltdown, she was relevant, but for the wrong reasons. She lost many fans and her album sales were extremely low at that time. Having another meltdown and doing the things she did would make her sales decrease by a lot.

I think a huge part of why she's still "relevant" is how human she is, despite all the success. She's still the girl next door. A woman who still goes to the store to buy groceries, a woman who doesn't wear any make-up when she takes her kids out, a woman who is so down to earth despite being the biggest female popstar since Madonna. She doesn’t make something like buying a coffee a spectacle like 96% of the industry. She doesn’t care about Hollywood; she's a normal person, which makes her so appealing and relatable.

While others over-expose themselves, Britney almost under-exposes herself, especially these days.

I mostly agree with the people that said her impact/discography can't be so easily forgotten.

There's probably also a sense of nostalgia with Britney too. People always reminisce about the "good old days" of the 90s. That's why if Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Backstreet Boys etc. are ever spoken about, it'll strike a chord in people who were familiar with pop culture in the 90s.
