I don't think those sales are disappointing. It looks to be on its way to outselling her last three singles. I think it was released to help it go #1. It seems that these labels are desperate for #1s these days.

RCA released a remix featuring Lil' Mama and even shot a video for it. And Girlfriend isn't credited as a #1 for Lil' Mama though. What makes you so sure about Brit will be credited

Did the Girlfriend remix even sell all that much? The remix is going to be one of the main reasons for S&M going to #1 and the remix will outsell the original next week. Something the Girlfriend remix never did.

if u think the banner is what's going to "save this song." It was top 5/top 3 (?) without the banner and had the top 10 promo to go by anyway. The banner wasn't "needed", but it was NEEDED b/c the collaboration is undeniable...quit digging for something smh
Was "Girlfriend" (Remix) released AFTER the original went to #1? If so, then I can understand why it wasn't credited as a #1 for Lil Mama.
I can see both sides of it. "S&M" (Remix) would be the reason why the song goes to #1, so in a sense, Britney should be credited for that. But if airplay and sales make up the difference, then I'm not sure.

half of those sales came from first 10 days, so it didn't really have consistent sales
