So I know this isn't going to change anything and it shouldn't necessarily change anything. I understand that ATRL is privately owned and the administration can run the site nearly however the **** it wants, that there are no "rights" that posters are entitled to, and that as a poster, I am not owed anything, even an explanation in response to this post. But I would just like to state my opinion anyway
I think the new rules are ********. I understand that my posts were really offensive. That was the point. What I don't understand is why my posts (and the posts of other members) are labeled too disgusting and unnecessary, when:
1) A thread like SYG, where (as was stated in the original post) "vicious argument" was supposed to take place and there were no limitations listed prior to the rule change, exists in the first place. Isn't that quite allowing for remarks such as mine? To me, vicious is inclusive of disgusting remarks. They don't necessarily mean the same thing, but I think the two go hand-in-hand.
2) SYG will still be full of ad hominem attacks that include attacks on things such as looks, weight, parenting abilities, and as the original post describes it, other types of "vicious argument." How are things such as attacking looks, something a person is born with and is uncontrollable unless with surgical procedure, not considered overtly disgusting by the board? That's just as uncontrollable as someone getting abused as a child. Technically, everything I just listed that will still be a part of SYG falls under the category of hate speech.
The truth is that ATRL is perfectly fine with disgusting remarks, so long as they don't cross any arbitrarily defined lines of what is actually disgusting. The whole concept of SYG is disgusting. Personal attacks against celebrities' looks, weight, and other aspects of their personal life are disgusting. Yet, that's still quite acceptable to this board?
I will adhere to the rules, but in my eyes, there is a blatant inconsistency. And no, I don't want SYG/NHB closed for good - this post isn't suggesting that at all.
