I saw Carly last night and it was absolutely incredible. I saw she was performing near me when the dates were first announced and convinced a few of my friends to come see her with me. They were a bit skeptical at first, but after I got all of them to listen to
E·MO·TION they all couldn't wait to go. I got a shirt before the show started because I knew there would be lines afterwards. The official tour t-shirt is black and has "Carly Rae Jepsen" written across the top in different colors (same colors as her sweater on the album cover). The colors run down from the letters in vertical lines to the bottom of the shirt. "E·MO·TION" is also written on the bottom. The back of the shirt has the name of the tour and the tour dates. From what I can remember, there were a few other shirts based on songs ("Warm Blood," "I Didn't Just Come Here to Dance,"), a beanie, and the
E·MO·TION vinyl. There may have been a few other things, but I just grabbed a shirt quickly and got back to my friends. The show started on time even though their tour bus apparently broke down. The Fairground Saints were really good. They performed a short set, but they are very talented and their songs were good even though acoustic isn't normally my thing. Cardiknox were okay. Their stuff was more upbeat, but I enjoyed Fairground Saints more. Carly performed the setlist given
here. I was kind of bummed that "Tiny Little Bows" and "Curiosity" were cut, but "Fever" made up for it. All I can say is that Carly's performance was absolutely incredible. I can't really say that I had a favorite moment in the show because all of the songs just flowed together so well and the energy never died. If I had to choose, I would say "Run Away With Me" (the opening) was my favorite part because literally everyone in the building was singing along and the energy was unreal. Carly seemed genuinely happy to be there. Occasionally she would put her hand over her heart and give this look as if she couldn't believe that there were so many people there singing with her and cheering for her. You can definitely tell the fame hasn't gone to her head. She interacted with the crowd a lot and gave little explanations about many of the songs before singing them. She also got off the stage at one point and walked around the space between the stage and the barrier, which was super cool. Her voice was fantastic throughout, and even when there was a backing track, her voice still shined. The tour remixes of the songs were pretty cool; some of the songs had these really cool instrumental intros that I loved. I thought that her performing with a live band would take away from some of the songs, but I didn't really miss anything. The songs sounded just as good with the live band as they do on the album. Her band was also really fun and Carly would play around with them on stage a lot. The stage backdrop was also really cool. They would just drown the stage in colors that really matched the vibe of the songs. Overall, this was definitely the best concert I have ever been to; I was blown away. I would 100% see her live again if given the opportunity.
