IconicFlop seems surprised, noting that the song is "actually good..] conatus is also impressed: "This has a kind of throwback sound that's really cute. This is a dated bop done right. Take note, London Queen!" I don't think it sounds dated at all, like it sounds like it could've been released in the 60s or it could''ve been released in the 2010s, timeless anthem! Drowned_World was also stanning: "Charmingly different from the rest of Sucker. I'm in love with the retro vibe, it suits Charli so well and sounds truly refreshing." It's like you read my mind! My thoughts exaclty. genetic fail gives us a nice little interpretation: "When the blessed Virgin Mary was contemplating on leaving Joseph because he was spending too much time with his sheep, this is the song she wrote. And damn! It sounds heavenly!" And of course it would be Subomie to leave our one dissenting comment: "In a strange change of pace, I like the verses here more than the chorus (which is lowkey annoying)."
Here is Artemisia on why it got his 11: "Her best song? The organ in the first verse The drum pattern before the chorus The lone guitar in the second chorus The conflicted thoughts towards the end of the song ("I need your love (I don’t want it), I need it even if it hurts me (you really hurt me baby)")" Ugh, the song is so complex and amazing, it's just like ear candy to me. A great choice of 11!
The ideal top 10 from this would be (no order)
2 On
All Hands On Deck
Bet Wildfire
Break Free
One Last Time
Problem Breaking Up
Need Ur Luv
Brooklyn Baby
2 On
All Hands On Deck
Bet Be My Baby
Break Free
One Last Time
Problem Boom Clap
Brooklyn Baby West Coast
Okay I lost 3 from my ideal top 10 (I think..) so I replaced them again. It won't happen but I'll pray.
Charlotte has her tongue firmly in cheek on "Need Ur Luv", the album's 60's girl group inspired closer. Apparently Charli wrote it with Rostam from Vampy Weeks in a "haunted hotel in the countryside in Sweden" that was "like The Shining". The more you know. IThe song was also given a very cute performance on Late Night With David Letterman.
The song was briefly in the top 10, which shocked me. I have to say, that top 10 was more interesting than the final one.
