I was so happy about the comeback but there's too much negativity on ATRL. And many of us are feeding it. I think we should stop. Here for a #NoNegativity campaign. This should be about positivity, celebrating Janet, not Madonna fans.
I knew negativity would come as soon as she announced anything though. It's inevitable. I agree though, as soon as we got news that she made an announcement about the new music some members were already being so negative and we were just excited to get music
Damita Jo is underrated, as is 20 Y.O., and I would say Discipline is the worst of the three later albums in all honesty.
2O Y.O is trash (except Enjoy and So Excited) sorry
I really love Discipline! I don't get the hate for the album.
for me:
Discipline > Damita Jo >>>>>>>>>>>> 2O Y.O
Got Til' It's Gone is such a relaxed throwback bop.

People don't understand context. Between the 60s and 80s, R&B acts selling 300k - 500k per album with one or two top ten hits on the R&B chart was a success for them and the label. Janet's first two albums were deemed successful in their time. The whole "commercial disappointment" notion became used as back story to illustrate how Janet became a music icon on her own merits. I see why it's used - using it as a jumping point, while indirectly crediting Her success to Her own talent - but these "journalists" need to be a bit more thorough and investigative in their "journalism". Also, by calling them flops, people are indirectly belittling the success of R&B acts of that time.
thanks for this history, sis

I Want You >>>> your fave track from all three later albums
Kelly Alexander interviews Tina Landon about the the making of Michael & Janet's "Scream" music video since it is the 20th Anniversary of the song's release on May 31st.
Discipline is pretty bland for Janet but the singles are great. It's a great album but obviously has a lot of competition in her discography. Damita Jo is severely underrated, just yesterday I was bopping to All Nite and My Baby. 20 Y.O. is trash, pretty much.
They sold that much?!?! I thought they barely sold 50k from the way they're talked about. Cuz yeah that's not bad at all then
Janet's first album was actually successful for a debut. She had 3 top 20 R&B hits, a top 10 R&B album and was ranked as having the #10 most successful R&B album of 1983. And she was only 16 in an industry full of adults. Definitely in the R&B world she was successful and very known musically. It's just when put it up against Michael's success across all formats it looks like a flop. But on its own merits, it's actually quite successful. Now Dream Street...yeah that was a flop. I have no defense for that.
