I was reading the tumblr post about Old Usher VS New Usher. So much truth in it. Tired of the Urban community (which i'm part of lol) getting on him.

I don't understand what the urban community wants from him. He released an album that was pure RnB and they still complained about it, calling him boring, and that he needed to change it up. When he finally did, everyone is suddenly calling him a sellout, when his album is mostly RnB.

Yeah agreed
Seriously... why should someone like Usher who has f*cking talent for everything just waste his time with one genre? We're not anymore in the 90's some people are too dumb to understand it... I'm still a huge R&B fan and I wasn't a big Pop fan for some years ago... but for me Usher is doing everything right and people who get mad about this are fake fans for me... nothing more.

Old Usher Vs. New Usher
In my opinion, this is the DUMBEST argument I have ever heard. And before you start, I’m not a “new” Usher fan (I’ve been a fan since My Way)…and I’m not biased just because I’m a huge fan…if I don’t like an Usher song, I will straight up say so.
But I’ve got to say when people say “Oh I miss the old Usher…Usher’s gone pop…I want Confessions Usher back…I miss RnB Usher.” First of all I am confused as to what you exactly mean…because some of you guys are acting like he’s completely abandoned his RnB roots. And secondly it just PISSES ME THE **** OFF!!!
Are you saying that Usher should make ONLY RnB songs? REALLY?! Because if that’s what you’re saying then, first I have to ask you WHY? And second, can you name any male artist that is making solely RnB albums and are as successful, and as RELEVANT as Usher? Why must Usher be placed in only ONE GENRE of MUSIC? Why can’t he try out new styles of music? EXPLAIN TO ME WHY?
Let’s look at the album “Here I Stand” this album in my personal opinion is THE MOST RnB Usher has ever been. And I’m talking completely RnB, almost old school RnB. Yes the album went to Number 1…most of you guys were probably still hyped off Confessions and couldn’t to hear what next he had to offer…but after the first couple of months of it being out, A LOT AND I MEAN A LOT of you guys saying “Oh this album is too RnB…I’m kinda disappointed in the album…it’s not his best work…it’s kinda boring…Confessions was way better.” BLAH BLAH BLAH…and to be completely honest MOST of you “So-called RnB fans” slept on that album, and don’t act like you didn’t because 2008 wasn’t Usher’s best year, was it now? There was no worldwide tour, he only played in small venues in the USA…compared to 2004, Usher was hardly anywhere.
Yeah it could have been due to the fact that he got married, and you guys didn’t like his choice of Wife…but are you that superficial? Music is Music…and “Here I Stand” is a very good album…highly underrated…but did you guys buy into it? NO.
It’s only now, that Usher is trying out new sounds, that you guys are are like “Here I Stand is such a good album…Usher stopped making good RnB after 2008”…and I ain’t lying. I remember when that album came out…and the amount of mixed review it was getting was crazy.
SO WHAT **** DO YOU WANT FROM HIM? You ask for an RnB album and then most of you don’t buy in to it. DOES THAT MAKE SENSE? Why would Usher make create something that won’t sell?
And I’m not gonna talk about Confessions, because we all know that it is arguably one of THE BEST ALBUMS of the 21st century. This is not up for debate.
But are you saying that in 2012, you want a recycled version of Confessions…which was released over 8 years ago? Sounds change, people change, and you can’t expect people to be making the same music over, and over again. For instance if you look at a painter, would you really expect them to paint the same things? No. I didn’t think so.
Now…when Raymond VS Raymond came out and his lead single was OMG that’s when all these comments about the “missing the old Usher” started happening. But to the people who were saying this, did you actually listen to the album? I highly doubt it…because if you did you would have realized that out of the 15 tracks that were on the album ONLY 2 were what you would consider “pop/electronic/dance” and the same with “Versus” ONLY 5 out of the 15 tracks were “pop/electronic/dance” and 2 of those 5 tracks were already on “Raymond VS Raymond”
Both of these albums, were still very RnB. Now look at this:
Usher releases OMG (Dance/Pop) and it goes straight to number 1.
Usher releases “Daddy’s Home” (RNB) it charts at 24.
Usher releases “There Goes My Baby” (RNB) it charts at number 25.
Usher releases “Lil Freak” (RNB/Hip Hop) it charts at at number 40.
Usher releases “More” (Dance/Pop) it charts at number 15.
Usher releases “DJ Got Us Fallin’ in Love” (Dance/Pop) it charts at number 4
Anyone else noticing a trend here? You ask for RnB but then you don’t buy it. Look at the chart numbers. HOW DOES THAT MAKE SENSE TO YOU?
And now onto “Looking 4 Myself” this album is the most Eclectic Usher has been, but the essence of Usher’s RnB root’s is still there if you take the time out to listen to the album.
When Climax came out people were going crazy saying “Usher’s back, Old Usher’s back, RnB Usher is back” this again never made sense to me because…because Climax, is essentially a down tempo, electronic track. It’s only Usher’s vocals that make the song RNB…but hey, whatever.
A lot of you were saying that this song was RNB…ok lets consider it that.
You asked for RNB and you got it…so I’d expect the song into the top 10 right? Did it get there…yes on the RNB charts it went to number 1…but the official charts, it got to only number 17. Again you want RNB and then you don’t buy it.
However Scream which is (dance/pop) is currently peaking at 13 on the charts, and will probably go up the charts with the video just coming out.
Again with “Lemme See” it peaked at number 80 on the billboard charts, and number 8 on the RnB charts.
How exactly is Usher supposed to know what you want from him, when you say one thing and then you do another?
This is exactly why I really appreciate the album “Looking 4 Myself”, because I believe that Usher just said “**** it, I’m just gonna make an album with songs that I enjoy listening to, and I love” and of course it has Usher’s story telling in it, and everything that made us love Usher in the first place, but instead of sticking to ONE STYLE OF MUSIC…he using a lot of different genres. I don’t know if its because I listen to all types of music, and I don’t limit myself just listening to one style is why I love this album, or maybe it’s just because it’s just a amazing album. Who knows? But hey, it has something for everyone on there!
oh and by the way for all the people who are saying it’s so pop/dance/electronic clearly haven’t listened to the album properly.
Again out of the 18 tracks, there are only 4 tracks that I would even consider dance/pop/electronic. For instance the song “Euphoria” is an extremely well produced and written dance/electronic track. Just listen to words. It’s not some stupid repetitive dance track that we are all accustomed to hearing.
But anyway…
I definitely think “Looking 4 Myself” is right up there with Confessions…in terms of originality and just the quality of the album. But you don’t have to listen to me. It’s just my opinion.
So yeah I think this Old Usher vs New Usher debate is ****ing stupid. Because there is no old Usher or New Usher…there is only ONE Usher, who is experimenting with new sounds…and doing it very well.
I know this was long but I had to get it off my chest, it’s been bugging me for a while.

She spilled the true tea
That is exactly how I feel about everyone saying he needs to go back to his old style. There is no old Usher, there is no New Usher, he is just being himself. Its his career, and honestly I like the fact that he had complete control over Looking 4 Myself, it is where he is at in his life. He can't make the same music simply because he isn't 25 anymore. He can't keep singing about being up in the club. I personally think Looking 4 Myself and Here I Stand are his most mature albums.

All I want is a new single released, specifically Looking 4 Myself, Twisted, or Euphoria.
