What killed Gaga really was catering too much to the 'little monsters' (and I'm not using that in the ATRL sense to describe any fan, but the HARDCORE stans). They convinced her to focus exclusively on them and to make everything about the gays, and it destroyed her image and coolness with the general public, and, ironically, limited how far the message of acceptance she was preaching would reach.
What she should have done is release a self-actualizing bravery anthem if she wanted to, but make the lyrics universal and well-written (none of that "subway kid rejoice your truth" mess), and pair with a video that explores LGBT issues in a tactful and artistic way. Kinda like how "Take Me to Church" did it.
Will the gays ever understand Gaga was raised a naive NYC girl. Bitch can't hold vicious enough ambitions to go Madonna route. Could you imagine her slapping a bitch in the face with a wine bottle? No. If she had just a scrap of Taylor in her she'd never had to go through all this.
