So with the on-demand thing, soaring airplay and strong sales, could Gotye jump to #2 next week?
I don't think so. Kelly has massive radio AI and is doing pretty well in Spotify streaming. I would say... 3 or 4 wouldn't be a stretch. Since SFTTR lacks the streaming AND is slagging in sales.
Your favourite pop girls can still be successful if things do move in a more "alternative" direction, they just have to adjust their music a bit. There was practically no electropop in the charts in 2003-2005, but some pop girls still managed to do well in that time. Lady Gaga has done You and I, Rihanna has done California King Bed, and so on. It doesn't neccessarily mean everybody that has big hits will be one-hit wonders.
And it looks like it actually could happen still!!
