The original cartridges hardly even work anymore, and it's not actually going to be less than $10 to get a GB/GBC and an original cartridge, especially with tax and shipping.
I'm not going to waste my time locating this original hardware when there's no good chance the game will even hold a save. I actually have Red, Blue, and Yellow, and only the latter is still capable of holding any save data.
$10 for a virtual console copy WITH THE ABILITY TO TRANSFER (I.e. with the ability to get moves that are otherwise unavailable on some Pokemon, with stat effects that are yet to be seen) is a hell of a lot better of a deal.
I think that people are really missing the point. The nostalgia is a factor, but so is the different gameplay mechanic, the ability to transfer, the ability to have literally every region accessible now on 3DS with its original story. Gen 1 and Gen 2 being unable to transfer upward was an issue for a lot of people and now it's being fixed.
Hell, I just hope they do VC for the Gen 2 games, too.
