That is what I WANT.
I wanted it for MDNA, but we all know how that turned out. I wanted it for Rebel Heart, but got something else entirely (though Rebel Heart is her second best this millennium so it's not like I'm complaining.
Remember that thing that leaked that everyone thought was Madonna, "We R Superstars" that ended up being from some rando that then went on to do a pretty decent remix of BIM? That's what I want out of the next album. Somewhere between
Confessions and
Madonna, maybe with a touch of harder electronic sounds.
She's consistently proven that modern Madonna is at her best when she does a very particular kind of music. Dance 2night or Heartbeat, the entire Confessions album, Love Spent, Celebration, etc. I'd even point to elements of Holy Water, the bridge of Illuminati, the original S.E.X. and other parts of Rebel Heart as evidence for that.
Now, that's not the only thing with which I'd be satisfied. She's also remarkably adept at the particular style exemplified by Miles Away and Devil Pray, and I want more exploration of that direction in the future as well.
