So I'm liking the chart more and more

It's so interesting because it changes a lot, it's not like the same thing week after week

Now we have:

1. The biggest surprise and probably the biggest hit of the year: We Are Young ******** the competition

2. The return of the boybands: The Wanted and OneDirection

3. Kelly having sucess like nobody expected, her biggest hit of her career

4. Canadian act, Carly Rae Jepsen, another surprise of the year since many canadian acts just have sucess in their country

5. Train being back

6. Sia with her first of upcoming hits

when she messed up rated R with rockstar 101 and te amo releases i thougut she'd learn from the expirience and not rush single release....but omfffffg this era is like 10 times worse...!!

This isn't the right thread for this rant but oh well.

TALK THAT TALK

The positives
- she got the biggest single of her career.
- her imagery for this album is awesome.
-it's my favorite Rihanna album.

The negatives
-that disgusting, awful, degrading remix she did with Chris Brown that forever damaged my perception of her
-the US album sales. (is she even at 750K?)
-the underperformance of follow-up singles that SHOULD have smashed (YDO should've gone Top 3 & TTT should be #1 right now).
-the fact that the remix-that-shall-not-be-named interfered with TTT & may have gotten an official urban release.
-some of her antics

I hope this doesn't get reported (oh well if it does), but as a fan this is a frustrating time. There's always a frustrating time within every single Rihanna era but this era is easily the worst. This could've been her most successful album with at least 3-4 #1 singles. It's so mishandled.

TTT should've been the second single, released in November during the album release. YDO is a summer song, not a winter song. TTT (the song) went all the way to #11 on Top Songs release week & they could've played off of that had YDO not interfered.

Loud has its flaws too... but not until later in the era. California King Bed / Man Down was a DISASTER.

Dual singles should just not happen with Rihanna, but they seem to have not learned (BC was released to urban... is this true or not?) Her songs naturally have multiformat appeal so it's like overload.

It was the closest to perfection though. If she played her cards right, she could have been sharing that record with Michael and Katy.

Good Girl Gone Bad had "Shut Up And Drive" which was basically the "You Da One" of its time... it should have peaked pretty in the top ten, but was overshadowed by "Umbrella"-slayage.

I don't know what to think of Drive By. I'm on the edge with a lot of the Top 10 - I don't know what to think of Call Me Maybe either.

They're both very campy - but it's also part of their overall appeal. Train has changed so much since 10 years ago.

GGGB was for me her best album and best era.... SUAD should have peaked higher though... #15 waa too low... otherwise it was a perfect era...even the rerelease..!!

**** they might as well. Beyonce's singles could've performed a lot better. Rihanna's singles could have performed a lot better (im talking her recent singles not WFL of course). Drake's, Nicki's. I've just noticed now that I'm naming black artists. They've got two distinct audiences they're trying to appeal to so they release two songs that are substantially different? Idk someone help me out here, is it a race thing? Are black artists more likely to hinder the performance of their singles by trying to appeal to two audiences or am I talking out of my ass?

All of them are also urban/crossover artists.

It would be nice if they could find a song that appeals to multiple formats at once instead of throwing out a gazillion singles and confusing the audience.
