I thought it was always 1 million copies given away, then TIDAL reported that fake 400K first day, and ever since that number didn't show up with Soundscan people just put it into the 1 million and said 1.4 million.
Why would Samsung specifically buy 1.4 million copies of an album? 1M makes sense, and I believe it didn't get a 2x Platinum certification until it passed 1M SPS not 600K SPS.

I don't think Samsung paid $25m for 1m copies, I think they just financed the first day of giving Anti out for free, no matter how many copies downloaded. afaik, and I could be completely wrong, RIAA certifies US units, hence the 1m copies being taken into account, whereas the remaining 470k units are the ones downloaded outside the US.
No one care about those stuff.
