It also includes some of the best. Enjoy, Take Care, Roll Witchu, Days Go By... Do It 2 Me, dare I say... Discipline ain't even got the "best songs" part. It's just a trash festival starting with 2nite. Thankfully it has Feedback so people are distracted by its from its poor quality as a whole.


Regarding RN1814, the fact that 10 people came running to say it's not overrated proves my point. I didn't even say it's bad, just overrated. Praised to levels it can't even back up itself. And don't come for sociopolitical bulls**** when janet and The Velvet Rope and specially Control touched on so many subjects without being pretentious. Control is more of a feminist-themed album than RN has any sort of a theme.

One of the reasons why RN1814 is Her best album is that it works as an ALBUM. With the exception of maybe 1 or 2 tracks, all the songs stick to the theme of the album, or are somehow loosely related. You can listen to it straight thru without skipping and track, the focus is there from beginning to end. Just because the latter songs aren't as "preachy" as the first three opening tracks, doesn't mean they're not socially conscious. BC is about drugs, Alright is about friendship/relationships, "SIT" is about being deflowered. The album is sociopolitical, not just political and that's what ppl don't understand. They only look at the political message and not the social. With TVR and "janet", you can easily skip tracks or remove a few and you still have a focused album. With RN1814 you don't have that. Either it's all or nothing.

And if we're being flat out honest, it's her most iconic album in terms of sound and imagery. The RN outfit is legendary. The videos are legendary. How many artists have mimicked the chair routine from MYM? How many artists have a Jazz era inspired video like Alright? LWND is iconic. The songs, the videos, the music are all iconic. No other album/era of Her's can say the same.

Control has all of that. Legendary videos. Iconic looks. ImpacT. Ushering in a new genre and impacted MUSIC period. It being the only album of Hers nominated for AOTY grammy. It punches from start to finish. All other girls following her blueprint once she saw success

BuT, I love RN. It's so iconic.

We actually can deny it's overrated because it isn't. It's a great album and there was NEVER any intention to stick to the social theme throughout the album. She says on the album 'GET THE POINT LET'S DANCE' and it transitions. Whether or not you like the transition is one thing but the idea that the intention was for Rhythm Nation to be a completely social conscience album has never made sense - both Janet and Jimmy have disputed that specifically talking about why they put in GET THE POINT, LET'S DANCE and then transition into bops like Miss You Much. Not to mention that it's sonically perfect and some of the best work of Jimmy and Terry's career.

I totally disagree. It and TVR tie for her best album undoubtedly. First of all, the production on RN1814 is one of the most exemplary display's of the New Jack Swing era's innovation. The techno breakdowns running throughout "Rhythm Nation" and "The Knowledge" were sickening. Can you imagine how BASIC a 1989 Yamaha keyboard would've been? Jimmy and Terry worked that thing for ALL it's worth!

The social theme IS present enough in the album. "Rhythm Nation" - world peace, racial unity. "State of the World" - social decay and poverty. "The Knowledge" - the power of education. "Love Will Never Do" CAN be argued to be about interracial relationships. She was dating/married to (?) a Hispanic man, and she filmed a black and white video full of juxtaposed B&W and colored images, featuring a White love interest. Even then, "Livin' In a World" is about the abuse and neglect of children. "Black Cat" is about the corruption of teens and gang violence. ****, "Alright"'s message of friendship could tie in! That makes 6 songs out of 12!

Lastly, it's her best vocal album next to janet.. No one notices because the song's video and its choreography are iconic, but she was belting her heart out on "Rhythm Nation". The flawless soprano high C at the end of LWND. The low notes in "Alright". The HARMONIES in "Alright", "The Knowledge" and "Come Back to Me" (album's only real "classic" aside from the title track - maybe MYM too, idk)!

The whole thing is just addictive to me. Most played album possibly.

Control displays her best vocals hands down. She has yet to deliver a song with the same vocal prowess as "He doesn't know I'm Alive."

I am okay with her working with Jimmy and Terry as long as they are inspired and Janet is inspired (AND WRITING). I really don't want another album of songs that someone submits to Janet that she just puts out there (Discipline). or an album full of songs thrown together because she wants off a label (20 YO)

I think this album is really going to be primarily produced by Jimmy & Terry, Rodney Jerkins and Rockwilder though.
