It's not always about popularity. And whether it be rigged or not, as said already, Grammy's are the most prestigious award an artist can get. The only ones who complain about it are the ones who never get any. And it's hilarious people still think there's concrete evidence that Grammy's can be bought
The Grammys are no more rigged than the VMAs, American Music Awards or Billboard Awards. It's still the one award that is always attached to an artist's name, whether it be Grammy-Award winning or Grammy-nominated. Those other awards don't hold the weight. Of course the Grammys have plenty of flaws; the point remains...
And it becomes cringe-worthy when pop fans talk about what they're "above" like they're Hip Hop, Country or Alternative music fans.
If my fave had a crapload of Grammy's, I brag about them back and forth, so I don't blame any stan for bragging about their faves Grammy's.
Here's to praying that will.i.am submits Scream and Shout for Best Dance Recording. No pop girls can ever be nominated again in that category, but since he isn't a pop girl and is more of a producer [like most nominees in that category now] then I think his material might have a chance at a nomination.
The average ATRL poll doesn't matter in REAL LIFE. Grammy committee of over 12,000 snobs/voters skilled in recording, producing and music in general >>>>>>>>>>>>> Twinks on a messageboard stanning for their favorite pop star in a poll most people will never see. Trust me, Katy cares more about a Grammy win than a bunch of Internet polls.
Just because it "matters" in real life and it's covered in the media doesn't mean it's worth anything more than an ATRL poll. An artist is messed up as a person if they dream of winning a Grammy. Because in the end the Grammys are nothing but a brand. Once you strip it of the "value" the name itself adds, you see nothing but the corrupt Grammy voting process and how meaningless that makes the "achievement".
It's all about shedding the effect of media indoctrination and assessing something objectively. Once you're capable of doing that then you too will no longer care about the Grammys.
after listening to Roar countless times with good quality headphones on I can confirm that it is indeed ****ing dark and y'all will deal
but seriously, the instrumental (the synth I guess, I'm not an expert) is very dark
slay the world Katy
Frank Sinatra - A Man and His Music [winner]
Barbra Streisand - Color Me Barbra
Maurice Jarre - Dr. Zhivago Soundtrack
The Beatles - Revolver
Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass - What Now My Love
Revolver is the best-selling album from 1966 in the US and WW
Revolver is the most-acclaimed album of 1966.
Revolver is the most-acclaimed album of the 1960s and all-time (aggregated all-time lists).
Revolver features all original songs.
A Man and His Music was not one of the best-selling albums of 1966, has no certifications, appears on no notable lists throughout history, has no modern reviews, and features no songs written by Sinatra or any original songs at all.
I mean, assign whatever meaning to the Grammy Awards you wish. They've always been the most high-profile Awards Show in the music industry and winning an award is in a sense the highest honor you can receive immediately from an award show body, but meh. They're not even an accurate representation of immediate or long-term critical consensus, impact on the industry, or commercial success.

Kworb...you could say the same thing about money
Strip a dollar of its value and its nothing more than just a piece of paper
Every area of the musi industry holds it to that standard...just like the oscars are held to high honors for movies
the handing out of awards will never be perfect The Grammys still hold all the weight though. no one cares if you have a bunch of AMAs/BBMAs/etc if you don't have a single ****ing Grammy, like 1 Grammy>>>10 VMAs
Just because it "matters" in real life and it's covered in the media doesn't mean it's worth anything more than an ATRL poll.
Of course it does.
Seriously, what is an ATRL poll to an artist? You think they'll get butthurt or feel honored just because they lost or won an Internet poll as opposed to a Grammy Award.
Every system is corrupt to some degree, including (or ESPECIALLY, rather) the ATRL polls. No system is perfect. However, in the end, a Grammy is viewed as the highest honor in music, not a poll on a pop forum. The fact that people constantly complain about the award being a joke proves how important it is.
Some people don't need the validation of a Grammy voter to make great music or have a long career, but they also don't live for a poll result either.

I think Grammy nominations as well should hold quite some weight. It's not the same as a win, obviously, but to think that there are THOUSANDS of songs/albums submitted for each category and only about 5 can make it, it's pretty damn impressive that your work got a nom.
Katy got a nomination in all the major categories for TD or one of its singles. That's despite the lackluster critical reception. She should get SOME credit for being nominated, tbh.
Grammys are definitely overrated, especially considering how many legends haven't won a single one.
Either way, it's the most respected and known music award and nothing will change that. At least I can say my fave has one for a song her label didn't even want her to release.
The Grammys will always be the gold standard. No need for theses about it.

#Roar is gonna be absolutely, f*cking massive, isn't it? :-/
I wish it had a bridge or better written verses though.
I just wish they were more consistent with their nominations and awards. Nominating Teenage Dream for AOTY and then awarding to Arcade Fire is a bit of an eyeroll to me, as is falling back on the same few artists (Foo Fighters, Eminem, etc.) to fill up nomination slots every year. And I don't mean that in a one is superior to the other way.
To be fair though, I don't know as much about the Grammy process as the Oscar process.
