We Are Young has nice chorus but the rest of song is pretty much average + weak verses.As a whole song feels forgettable.And I don't really like how the singer sounds on some parts.Ridiculous.
There are much better songs on their album.
Luckily most of the song is chorus.
I think people are responding so strongly because it's a bittersweet chorus that works on two levels: it captures the promise/confidence/dreams of youth...as well as the feeling that those dreams may never come true. In that sense it's a truly universal anthem with appeal to all ages.
