Two completely different types of stories, though. In terms of plot...Twilight was a fantasy love story about a girl in love with a vampire. The Hunger Games is about a war.
As far as literary merit...
Twilight was a poorly written saga that basically has a static storyline, characters without any depth or personality and a fanbase consisting of twelve year old girls.
The Hunger Games is a story with many different layers, symbolism, dystopian themes, dynamic characters and a touching and interesting storyline about war, love and the ugliness of the world and what it could become one day.
Unfortunately, though, it is being compared to Twilight because of its popularity. But the two aren't even remotely on the same spectrum. I see what you're saying, though. Both are basically being overly hyped. But I don't think THG is overrated. I just think it's being hyped up because it has such a large fanbase and our fandom is very dedicated and interested in the movie. My dashboard on tumblr goes nuts after a few new pictures leak. Lionsgate is probably just giving us something to hold onto until the actual trailer comes out.
