They still have legacies (Janet is questionable, but I feel that she can ignite people's love with her in the right moment).
The public turns on every artist, but it's how you come back from that that makes you stronger. You think Aretha's flopped eras hurt her, especially when she had a comeback in the '80s? I think when you built up your status over years and decades, no one can really take that away from you. It's those artists who only had a short time of public attention that struggle to have a long-lasting legacy after a flop moment.
