ddd how on earth. I hope she wasn't counting on that #1. Otherwise y'all better hide.
I'm a big fan of Ellie (Halcyon is one of my favourite albums ), but this just doesn't do anything for me. It all sounds so uninspired and shallow, I can't even pay attention to most of the songs, they just blend into the background, if that makes sense. The lengthy tracklist doesn't help it, either.
For the time being, it's Holding On For Life, Don't Panic, Army, and Lost and Found that are somewhat memorable.
I'm very happy with the album, one of the best from pop
But I feel that it's just a touch from greatness...
Intro/Aftertaste - the transitiion was mega. Mega hype. The beats were amazing... then the chorus hit, which is nice, but the production/beats got pushed to the back...losing the momentum a little bit 9/10
Something In the way you move - was so amazing as a promo track, but now pales in comparison 7/10
Keep on Dancin' - It's insane, quirky and amazing 10/10
On My Mind - Meh 6/10
Around U - is so CUTE. I LOVED the rapid fire "I could be damned" right after 1st chorus, I wish it was done again in the outro, then it would have been perfect 9/10
Codes - THe most rounded song on the album. I wish the bridge was better though 9/10.
Holding On For Life - I still haven't decide if I love it or hate it 7/10
Love Me Like You Do - surprisingly fits nicely on the album 8/10
Dont Need Nobody - Love it but can't have it on repeat 7/10
Don't Panic - A great song objectively, but I hate how she sings the words "Don't Panic" 7/10
We Can't Move to This - a tragedy - 1/10
Army - Cuteness overload 10/10
Lost and Found - A great reminder of Lights Ellie - 10/10
Devotion - YASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS 10/10
Scream It Out - basically a Tove Lo song... 6/10
The Greatest - A solid filler track 7/10
I Do What I Love - This song is INSANE, it's so bold, this level of production vs crispness of vocals is what I'm missing from Aftertaste. This song sounds like a Disney villain trying to lure protagonist to do some bad deeds 9/10
Paradise - Offers nothing new 5/10
Winner - The melody is so weird 4/10
Heal - Almost like an extension to Devotion 7/10
Let It Die - At least it's more interesting than the deluxe tracks 5/10
Paradise's Pre Chorus (So, have another drink...etc.) sounds so much like the verses on Happy Together by The Turtles, it has been bugging me to no end as to what song it sounds like then it finally clicked. Love the track though .
