I'll have Sucker in pretty soon.
But can you also put up 2014 Forest Hills Drive?
I find it odd that one of this years biggest albums, and one of the few where every song has a true personal meaning with the artist writing every song is being ignored. I mean it had one of the biggest first week sales this year.

2014 Forest Hills Drive isn't being ignored at all. I think a lot of people misunderstand that we only review a single or album if we get 3 requests for it. There's no reason to put an album up for review if no one wants to review it. You are the first request. If we get 2 more, the album will be put up for review.

Sorry, I've been sick recently (this is also why I haven't been posting as much on ATRL as a whole lately). I'll update when I have the time.

SUCKER
Charli XCX
______________________________
Released December 15 2014
Atlantic

I had low expectations for SUCKER. Charli might have given me my all time favorite album with her debut 'True Romance', but I wasn't sure if I was going to like this album. 'Boom Clap' and 'Break The Rules' really are the worst songs she could have chosen to promote the album in my opinion. Both singles are catchy and fun, but they are nothing compared ot the rest of the album. Hell when 'Break The Rules was released, I was SO hyped and gave it a high score, but the hype slowed down and I realized I had been wrong about the song. The song is good but really could have been better. And so is Boom Clap. I had been wrong. The album is AMAZING, I can't believe I actually doubted her.
The first song on the album is the title track and it is just perfect. The up-beat, catchy and fun song made me go insane, the best album introduction you can have. It pretty much sums up the album amazingly well. When I first heard the live version of 'Gold Coins' I hated it, it sounded just messy, the studio version is beautiful. One of the tracks I hadn't heard prior to the album's release, and it's one of the fan favorites right now, but I [personally find the song being just Good. The following track Body of my Own is one of the 3 weakest songs on the album, Body of My Own is followed by the Fun and nice 'Famous', which sounds like a summer smash, I'm very happy with how this track turned out. 'Hanging Around' sounds like such a basic title, but it's a great song, catchy like the rest of the album even with that overused faux rock beat. The three final tracks, 'Doing It', 'Caught in the Middle' and 'Need Ur Lv' are all great tracks, especially 'Need Ur Luv'. Despite the title's messiness, the track is the second best song on the album, after the title track, even if I was surprised at first because i thought the track would be slightly harsher and not as cute as it actually is, due to watching her tour videos. It's a cute pop ballad-y song. After watching her David Letterman performance of the song, it grew on me even more. Also the target exclusive song 'Money (That's What I Want)' which is a cover is actually surprisingly great. I don't usually like ballads, but Charli nailed this one.
Overall the album is just a fun great and catchy album, one of the best of 2014. The punk influences were also interesting even if the album is clearly mostly pop.

Uptown Funk will end tomorrow around 12 PM, and The PinkPrint will start right after.

| Sucker
Charli XCX
I've not listened to her major label debut album True Romance, but from my impression, I thought she made alternative pop kind of songs. Sucker was a bit more pop than what I expected and most of the songs are catchy. But I guess what's different this time is that she's injecting some punk rock flavour. This works, but perhaps she needs to push it further to take it to another level.
Most of these songs are pure pop songs really, not many of them really take the punk sound and own it. Sucker and Break the Rules are probably the crunchiest of them all and you can hear Charli sticking her middle finger right through your speakers. But down the album, things kind of get milder and plushier. The subsequent songs are really cute, saccharine-filled tunes. If you've been banking on how this album is very punk influenced, it might be a bit disappointing.
But that's just my expectations. There is barely anything to fault about the songs itself. They're all well-crafted pop tunes with sweet hooks and clever lyrics. It's an album that you would want to listen to over and over, so that you can fall in love with every catchy bits. What I find to be her most interesting side is when she goes all soft. We had a taste of that on the Mockingjay soundtrack where she had a duet with Duran Duran's Simon Le Bon, Kingdom. In the closing track for the album, we see this side of her again. When she uses her high voice, it sounds almost magical and it's like a nice cleanser from her naughty and rebellious side.
Sucker may not deliver it's promises, but at the very least it succeeded it's mission in being a pop album. And a really good one as well. Charli Aitchison has quite the personality and with time, she can surely express them fully in her music.
