But Ed Boon said that one character from MK 4 would make it into MKX. Your source probably included the new character from mk 4 with the ones from MK3 included in mk 4.

Hmmm... I guess that WOULD need clarification since 2 characters in MK9 were from MK4 and on.

It's still early. MK9 when they released the demo, some characters still needed developed & included. There's still plenty of time.
