Yes it does cost money to travel to Europe, but if you succeed you make it up in sales/concert revenue. Taylor can afford to foot the bill anyway.
Well that is how you break into a market. You do promo and media and performances and your profile grows and supports your music. That is what she did in the UK. She is now well known here in the UK.
SIO has done really well and finally broken her into the German market. It was at no 9 in the last official German chart. Her most successful hit in Germany, IKYWT also peaked at no 9 there, so she is already matching that peak right at the start of this era. SIO is currently at no 6 on Germany iTunes, so it might get a higher peak next week.
The two biggest markets for music in Europe are the UK and Germany. Taylor is now established in the former and this era should establish her in the second. Once she has managed to do this, then it makes it more economically viable to perform more concerts in Europe. If she gets established in France then expect her to tour Europe more extensively going forward.
Her trip to France will increase her profile in that market and this will help sales of 1989 there.
She also needs to do more for South America, SIO is doing well there too. We've seen Taylor take a trip to Quebec, she is trying to expand her fanbase there to prepare the way for touring there again.
