or when the latino community did this
when's the last time black people help or protested against immigration laws that affect latinos, when have they ever talked about the lack of latino and asian representation in american media
They can kiss my ass OFFICIALLY. im not fighting for them or with them anymore. I am only going to support my latino brothers and sisters and my asian brothers and sisters (and i mean all asians, north, south, east, southeast, maybe not the west (they kinda scare me)

I was gonna post something similar, but pulled out because I didn't want to seem like I'm victimizing Asians. It's very true though, and not that I'm trying to make it a competition on who suffers more, but having a black guy make a racist joke against Asians on a night that's supposed to be about diversity is hypocritical at best.
People don't care about Asians and Latinos, and it's really only a huge crime if it's about black people. They all claim to wish for equal, but what they don't seem to get is that in equality, one cannot be more equal than the other.
I'll remain supporting blacks since I don't believe an entire race should suffer because of the actions and words of some, but I'd be lying if I said it didn't make me think twice about my stance.
We need a popular Asian actor and musician who is taken seriously in the mainstream Western media soon. They want racial equality, they'll need to prove it.

asians and latinos dont speak out enough against the racism they face. The black community is good with uniting and projecting their voice Asians simply dont do it enough. If you feel like Asian issues are swept under the carpet speak up against it...Organise rallies, protests, hashtags, campaigns so many other POC feel black people should speak on behalf of them but what would a black person know about an asian or latinas expereince with racism ![Bibliotheque](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/korn0818/ATRL_Smilies_All/atrlers/biblio_zps23dff242.gif)

it was never about the black community speaking for us
no one needs the black community to speak for them. But having the black community act like racial jokes at the expenses of another minority is nothing to fret about is troubling. Its to be expected that white people will make stupid jokes but black people perpetuating stereotypes while preaching about equality is laughable. And then to act like the latinos and asians never stood with the black community ever [which is what black members were saying in IBeMe's thread] when we were apart of the black lives matter and police brutality movement as well. Latinos and Asians arent asking for black people to speak for them, we are only asking that they dont go against us and put us down to bring themselves up i.e making racially stereotypical jokes about asians at a huge award show filled with a white audience

Its not cute to say the Black community is selfish and they they don't support other minorities. Thats a blanket statement and that kind of generalizations is what leads to ignorance.

And are we really going frame the whole black community because of what Chris Rock did?

I might have gotten too emotional and made a lot generalizations based off Chris and a couple of ATRL members

Yeah, things can get very heated in racial talks so we have to learn how to take things down a notch a bit. One thing I have realized that Black people are the most likely to be framed as whole "race" based on the action of a few individuals. This happens to other minorities as well, but in the US Black people overall probably gets the worse treatment like this.

If you guys could give up your current citizenship for a country in Asia (East, West, South, Southeast, Central) or anywhere in the world, would you and what country?
tragic backstory begin
tbh being american is great in terms of gay rights but im honestly tried of the back and forth between different ethnic and racial groups. the whole idea of race and belong-ness has been skewed in the US. white people are fighting with black people, which as a biracial product of the two, im constantly caught in the middle, we have too many shootings and alot of people ive met in america arent very nice. People dont seem to understand that my ethnicity is Japanese. my parents were extremely "white-washed" so i didnt grow up in black or hispanic culture instead my parents were "enablers". when they saw me and my brother took an interest in japanese culture (i was 3, he was 7), they ran with it, only buying us food from japanese markets in novi, michigan. They had several tv channels that only showed japanese movies, variety shows, anime ect they signed us up for japanese language courses and calligraphy classes and took us to japanese culture festivals in novi each time something was happening (which i how i completely ruined a tea ceremony when i was 7 ![skull](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/korn0818/ATRL_Smilies_All/faces/skull_zpsksni5fmm.gif) ) i literally grew up japanese ![skull](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/korn0818/ATRL_Smilies_All/faces/skull_zpsksni5fmm.gif) which is difficult since i just get lumped in with the weeaboos. even to this day i still am apart of japanese culture though my language skills have decreased since i took up learning korean but im gaining it back. The US just isnt the place for a biracial culturally asian guy and i dont want to go to any western countries because the idea of black versus white may still exist there due to the rise of social justice
tragic backstory end
TLDR: So i would honestly move to japan and live there permanently. When i went during my study abroad trip (im going back this october) I ****ing loved everything and the people were super nice and they wanted to show me everything about Japan that i didnt already know (which included ****ing walking around the entire city of Osaka ![skull](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/korn0818/ATRL_Smilies_All/faces/skull_zpsksni5fmm.gif) ). I thought about moving to South Korea or Taiwan but decided against because 1. South Korea isnt gay friendly and i hate mandatory conscription and 2. why taiwan is gay friendly is progressive, but i dont know if china is going to have another hissyfit and try to take it over (TAIWAN #1)
I know its crazy that im american and i dont want to be american and would prefer to give up my citizenship but its something ive been thinking about for a few years now so what are you guys' take on it? Do you think im insane or have you had similar thoughts about giving up your citizenship? (i realize that in some countries giving up your citizenship is illegal)

I'm going to throw my 2 cents in and say that all minorities should be helping each other. Telling blacks to kiss your ass is exactly the type of discord among minorities racist groups want.
There was a time when asians was helping the black panther party it almost feels like as time went on the solidarity between them has waned. And while Latinos and asians might not speak up as much has it ever occurred that they might still want equality but don't know how to get it done after various attempts?.
I think some people underestimate what latinos and asians have done in the past and even today.
I just feel instead of saying who needs to do what we should be listening to each other and better ourselves as a whole to get things done.

Recently the LGBT movement process is getting possitive in the Asia.
I don't know if which of these three countries will be the first one to legalize gay marriage
1. TAIWAN: I'm not sure about the law but I heard my friends saying that gay couple can register to live with each other, to take responsibility to each other. They are not allowed to register to become a marriage couple yet but the new female president already promised to do something about this.
2. VIETNAM: the law already changed and updated last year. The LGBT couples are no longer banned from living with each other, they can celebrate the wedding but they are not considered as marriage couple, if anything happened, they can do nothing about it, the law won't interrupt or help them.
3. THAILAND: we already know this land is opened to LGBT but there is no law which guarantees our rights.
My guess goes to Taiwan.

Thanks for the info!! ![:D](http://www.atrl.net/forums/images/smilies/images/smilies/biggrin.gif) i really love Taiwan and Vietnam. My heart is divided in 4 parts: S. Korea (because i know the most about it and speak the language, even my minor in university is Korean Studies), Taiwan (because i just love everything about it), Vietnam (because everyone was so nice when i went), and Japan (because its basically my childhood into early adulthood). My best friend is taiwanese and he said the only bad thing about taiwan was the flying cockroaches ![skull](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/korn0818/ATRL_Smilies_All/faces/skull_zpsksni5fmm.gif)

If I were you I would pick Taiwan to be honest.
Taiwan is like a bridge between your four favorite countries. It's really convenient to visit all of them. Things are nicer in Taiwan too.
And Vietnam may sound great but there's lot of bad stuff going there. Like bike accident, thief pocket, polluted air and the nightmare called traffic jam. So you have to be careful when you go down in the street in Vietnam.
The government is a mess too.

hey hunties! so just like my previous question to you guys about the racist Oscars jokes, I came up with a new question!:
Since I am part Moroccan it means I have some African ancestry.
Although Africa is extremely culturally, linguistically and ethnically diverse there seems to be a sense of "african pride". this pride of being african goes as far south as South Africa and as far north as Morocco. we are all so different in that continent but there is always an overwhelming feeling of unity and pride. it's interesting to see tbh.
I was wondering if Asians feel the same way?
Asia is of course 10x more diverse then Africa..(I mean there are more languages and dialects in India then there are in all of Africa)..but still...do you indian, chinese, filipino, arab, vietnamese etc members feel a sense of "Asian pride"? does that exist in your culture ? is that something you even think of? or are the differences too prominent and do you not feel connected by a pan asian pride?
Thanks guys! : )

I have a question: Why aren't South Asians and Southeast Asians (Indians, Pakistanis,Piñoys, etc.) considered Asians by western societies (and I assume other areas as well)? I never understood why people only think people from East Asia are real Asians. People seem to follow by the guideline that if you don't have pale-to-yellow skin AND small eyes you aren't considered Asian

yes I've noticed that a lot too tbh. ppl go as far as saying south asians arn't "real asians"
I'll let someone intellectual like the amazing sis Chopra to answer this in detail though since I'm not too sure where the assumption historically originated from tbh.

BlackLivesMatter is a one sided and narrow-minded race argument; it's often dubbed as a war, but in order to have a war, minimum two sides need to be angry, and only the black community is, and for faulty reasons.
If you look at statistics, such as this you can see that police brutality isn't necessarily biased. Whites on average are more likely to get killed. It's also funny to point out that black people are their own worst enemies; they are more likely to commit a crime against themselves than white people..
I also find a lot of the cases that created BLM to be really...stupid. For example the Ferguson case. He was a thug who robbed a store and attempted to assault a police officer and ended up getting shot. The Zimmerman issue was also stupid; Martin assaulted the man before Zimmernan shot him. Also a fun fact about the Zimmerman issue; the black community likes to claim mixed people as "black" if they're half, or even less than half in proximity of African ancestry. Zimmerman has an great-grandfather from Peru who was African, making him an eighth black. Funny, people would label that coloured twin as black while she's 75% white but won't claim Zimmerman...funny how fickle the black community can be
Although I'm black myself, I wholeheartedly despise the BLM and loathe the inequality. But even before this came about, I noticed severe racial bias; in the case of racism, it's always skewed in a black perspective. None care about racism towards Asians, Semitics, or Hispanics and Latinos. And between you and me, I find blacks on average to be more vitriolic and racist than any other group. I've never had any racist experience with any person, including white people. But I've had several occasions with black people. The black community invokes a hive mind and if you inconvenience one by doing something different, even in the slightest way, you're ostracised.
anyway I rambled, just saw this post and wanted to respond

What's with all the ranting about BLM in a thread about Asians... by the two non-Asian members in this thread?

You mean by North Americans (and people in Oceania), not westerners in general. The first people to use the word "Asian" were the British and they used it to refer to Indians and other South Asians. They still use the word "Asian" in the UK for South Asians mainly. For an example, Jay Sean is a British Asian singer.
In any case, Americans adopted the word "Asian" for East Asians in the '90s because "Oriental" (which they were called previously) was considered offensive and East Asian-American intellectuals pushed for a stop to the word. I don't care about the offensive part, but the word doesn't make any sense because "Oriental" means eastern, but east of what? Oriental rugs are from Iran, oriental dancing is from Greece, Turkey, etc. It does not refer to East Asians solely. In any case, American media has really pushed the idea that Asian = East Asian or Mongoloid since then. Now Canada, Australia and New Zealand do it too and other American-influenced countries (pretty much all over the world) are following.
As for Filipinos, many Americans (and other people influenced by American media) usually do recognize them as "Asian" easily because they're often Mongoloid enough. It's just some confused people who have embedded in their heads that Asian = Mongoloid when the vast majority of Asians are not racially Mongoloid.

I live in a community with a lot of East Asians and South Asians. Even around here, when we say "Asian" we generally refer to East Asians and we reserve "Indian" for South Asians.
Sometimes if I'm talking, I'll use "South" or "East" Asian to clarify though.
