There are many things that you can heal that are not life threatening to the people that have them. And luckily, OCD is one of them. Yea, cancer can be healed in some cases, but do you want to switch with a cancer patient? So... to me, you're not a victim. Why is this something you feel the need to internalize and take personally like you're the only person that has this disorder? That's like me getting upset by a shirt dealing with anxiety. I have severe anxiety and had a slight ocd problem when I was a kid. Do you know how hard I would laugh if someone made a joke about anxiety? I would personally wear the shirt!
Point is, life is too short to not allow yourself to be lighthearted. What good comes from this intention? Are you self satisfied? Will you do this when someone else does it? What if it were someone's idea to make the shirt that has OCD? The true issue lives within one's self and how they view themselves.. This is not about the shirt.
|
I know somebody who has anxiety and an eating disorder and she takes jokes about these things very seriously. It is one thing to mess around with your close friend whom you're clearly aware won't be offended and to sell a shirt like that in the most popular market in the US.

Cancer an schizophrenia are illnesses, OCD is not no offense.

Considering the vast majority of the people on this thread used disorder, I have no idea why you had to make that statement

Nah.
If we all were more empathetic to each other, then we'd all be better off. Would your life be worse without this shirt? Would someone's be better? Let's go with the one that does the most good.

Stop confusing OCD with obsessive compulsive tendencies. They are not the same thing and it makes you look stupid.

To help some of you understand:
Obsessive-compulsive disorder:
Quote:
OCD is characterized by obsessive thoughts, impulses, or images and compulsions (overt or mental rituals) that are difficult to suppress. Obsession and compulsions take a considerable amount of time and energy away from living your life, enjoying your family and friends or even doing your school work.
|
Obsessive-compulsive PERSONALITY disorder:
Quote:
OCPD involves a preoccupation with orderliness, perfectionism and control in virtually every part of an individual’s life. People with OCPD may spend an extraordinary amount of time cleaning their homes because they want them to be immaculate. Or they may keep their closets extremely orderly and aligned and may become annoyed if their orderliness is disturbed. Rather than being anxious about this, however, they see their behavior and thoughts as being OK.
|
OCD is an anxiety disorder, whereas OCPD is a personality disorder. Clearly this girl doesn't have OCD, otherwise she probably wouldn't have so much time to spend on social media.

Thanks for defining these. It is important for people to understand the difference.
However your comment at the end is wrong. There’s no connection between OCD and not being able to be on social media, not to mention that everyone’s OCD is going to be personalized and affect them in different ways.

A troll thread? See: http://atrl.net/?p=31441466
That post shows clear intent of the use of species. You could have easily said "I'm trolling haha" (considering yoy were directly asked if it was a joke) but you didn't. I'll leave that there.
Going back to the actual topic. I get you, there are horrible things going on in the world but does that make her tweet on the topic too much? Should she not put a concern up on social media? Should she not talk freely on her own account about her issue? People in this thread are saying SJW's are censoring people but you're literally trying to do the same to her. That's called hypocrisy my friend.

The fact that you can't even understand that most people with OCD find it hard to leave the house. Yet here she is prancing around Target taking pictures and spending all her time on social media. The obsessions and compulsions of the disorder don't leave much time for leisurely activities. Just stop. She doesn't have OCD.
If people are actually this sensitive, Idk how they plan on making it through life.

OR
She has OCD.
OR
She has OCD and is just out of the house.
OR
She has OCD and is having a good day
OR
She has OCD and the way it affects her doesn't mean she can't leave her house.
OR
She has OCD and has conquered it, and so living normally outside her house / on social media.

Like we're not even saying she 100% has OCD, we're just saying you can't judge that she doesn't based on your flawed stereotypes.

Ok well once someone can prove to me with a medical diagnosis that this girl has suffered or is suffering from OCD, then I will continue this discussion. Although my bet is that you can't, and neither can she, because she's never been diagnosed.

Yeah umm, that's not true.
Maybe in a severe and rare case of OCD but otherwise, most general sufferers of OCD are high functioning and can leave their homes. Also, these things aren't consistent (hence what being "triggered" used to mean. some days she could be fine, other days something can trigger her ocd such as stress) as someone else mentioned, she could be having a good day to be out. Assuming someone's experience based on what you think OCD should be is ignorant and lazy.

Nor can you provide medical diagnosis to disprove that she doesn't have OCD, all you did was provide us with overgeneralized statements about people who have OCD assuming they all deal with the same stuff, and your own keywords like "most" ruined this for you as well

Also there are far worse things than being a SJW... you know, like being a bigot who doesn't care about other people's struggles.

i don't know if this girl has OCD or not (and it's pretty stupid to assume she does or doesn't based on her social media accounts, because a large number of people are really uncomfortable talking about that on social media), but either way i don't think it's worth getting angry about. at least she's not saying "stupid is a slur" like some people do.
|
I didn't say she did or didn't because OCD can take many forms. But the negative social stigma with OCD is not that it's not considered a real condition, the major stigma is that so many people self-diagnose and mistake the fact that they have a routine as suffering from an actual mental illness.
Fighting some random micro-aggression that very, very few people find offensive instead of the major problem facing this mental illness just seems a little facetious.
