It's kind of odd to market it so heavily as a high-fidelity audio streaming service and then not mask at all that it's really just going after Spotify by offering a standard audio plan, that will most likely end up being the majority of its users.

I really hope a few months from now people aren't praising Tidal's sound while on the ten dollar plan, but I think the marketing will convince people otherwise. Even now it's something you wouldn't be able to notice if you're not using the right equipment.

Let's be real, has anybody actually listened to non-bootleg music on good headphones and thought "man, I wish this was higher quality." I understand that audiophiles exist, but TIDAL is trying to appeal to the masses. I'm sure most people are plenty happy with their Spotify/iTunes quality sounds, but we'll see if this ever takes off.

You can pay that same price for Spotify and get high quality streaming without bumping your price to $20. Also, people don't have to generally buy albums monthly so it isn't as bad, but any monthly bill starts to add up. Especially if you're a broke kid in college. Don't compare music to food and things you need to survive. People barely want to pay $9.99 a month for music that they can get for free online.. So what makes you think adding $10 extra is going to persuade them even more? It does not make sense.

Not in Sydney. It takes half an hour to drive to the CBD from where I live and a taxi is between $85-$90 if there's no traffic.

Paying once a month to access to almost infinite amount of music seems to be such a tall order for ya'll.
I still find it hard to believe there are people here (on a music forum) who haven't invested in Spotify Premium.

It's called being a normal person. Most people will exploit any system to its absolute maximum in order to reap the maximum benefit. It's logical. I'm not wasting my time listening to ads when I don't have to, and if Spotify closes its free service because enough people do the same, so be it. I'll find another service provider who offers a similar free experience. Life moves on.
