Nicki was from one of the 5 NYC boroughs. There were rappers before her from Queens and there will be after her. She didn't change anything for anyone
location-wise. She's made her impact in other ways, including opening the doors for women again.
Iggy has opened the doors for
anyone who dreams of being a rap star. You don't have to be from North America to do American-style hip-hop (as in not reggaeton, ragga, etc).
In the context of the article though, she is not the first female rap superstar. She has the potential to be the first white female rap superstar, but that is a different story.
