Finally, I get to comment on this banner with the old UK banner of yours. I noticed a lot of great and terrible UK artists had gotten either noticed or had been successful this year. Time for me to play catch-up and here comes a long post cause that’s what I do! Damn looks like I have to find the sets. What happened to the links? The title of this Best of. is well at least it’s not their worst song ever.
Glad that Royals and JGMAR spend that much weeks on your countdown. Skinny Love and Applause too.
Staring off good with the amazing Love Me Again with such good vocals and sweet sound. Downtown was a fun song while it lasted. At least your friend knows the great sh!t so glad Radioactive was able to sneak in despite never charting in your countdown. Yeah JT’s hooks are more enjoyable than Jay-Z’s rap verse, but still like both artists in this Holy Grail. Good first set. The only good-to great songs in the second set are The Other Stars Sadness (Remix).
On the third set, I Could Be The One has a good poppy dance mix, Hey Porsche is forgettable and not much of a jam at all. The great Nelly times are over. Fine China is nice once in a while. Not a song here that I actually like.
I really enjoyed Gorilla the most as an album track, Wake Me Up to Burn is just amazing mix of music. Glad that Endlessly won the cheesy song of the year. The only I like from those picks. Only Latch and sort of Alive I liked from that set. I only care about Army of Two in the sixth set.
Crazy Kids wasn’t all that good, I loved that part in It’s Time-the first listen of that I used as my intro in my Best of. Lolita is a nice song and nice to know that info about her. And BL does not win the grower song award, but I liked it before it became the unexpected hit anyway. The eight set has all the songs I either like once in awhile or is a grower except Thrift shop because that song is f**king awesome. Big hit #2 down and sh!t on. Nice heartbreaker winner.
Sweet Nothing and Suit & Tie are fine the way itself. Terrible late-bloomer winner, which is the only song I did not like. Brave should most defiantly win since Sara actually wants us to be Brave. The song is everywhere. I mean it even inspired the creation of Roar and honestly, pop radio just eats anything corny of Katy’s. Teens are typical. I’m fine with Royals winning it tho, but not those other two.
Average-to-good songs so far with some stinker here and there. I came just in time to wait for the top 100 to almost start soon.
activebeast · Best Songs Ever! · 2013 Ed · 101-105 · Award 7
WANNABES · #101 - 105
So close, yet so far.
105 · FIFTH HARMONY · Miss Movin' On
2 Weeks · Peak @ 12 "My innocence is wearin' thin but my heart is growing strong. So call me, miss movin' on!" ♫
A bitter-sounding trying-to-move-on anthem. This song always reminds me of "Mr. Know It All". Not as good, but I actually think it's a strong debut single for a girl group. Little Mix is still a lot better though.
ROBIN THICKE f/ KENDRICK LEMAR · Give It 2 U · 104
4 Weeks · Peak @ 15 "You're lookin' like you fell from the sky. You know you make a grown man cry. I wanna give it to you, tonight." ♫
Sexist of the year's follow up to the controversial yet successful "Blurred Lines". It might not match the appeal of its predecessor but it's definitely one good song to bop to. It was a grower though.
103 · EMELI SANDE · Next To Me
1 Week · Peak @ 11 You won’t ever find him be unfaithful. You will find him next to me." ♫
Here comes the most successful one-week-wonder on my countdown. I don't know why I ignored Ms. Sande last year even if she's a British. Good thing I gave "Clown" a try and eventually her previous hits like this one.
ONEREPUBLIC · If I Lose Myself · 102
3 Weeks · Peak @ 11 "Take us down and we keep trying. Forty thousand feet, keep flying." ♫
Last appearance c/o OneRepublic. I am actually loving the "Native" era. These guys keep on giving us a variety of great and catchy bops. It actually feels sad that this song should've been in the Top 100, but some new releases ousted this one.
101 · DRAKE f/ MAJID JORDAN · Hold On, We're Going Home
6 Weeks · Peak @ 06 "I can't get over you. You left your mark on me. I want your hot love and emotion endlessly." ♫
Drake was never gone in the limelight but I seldom appreciate his hits. However, this one sounds really good that I actually prefer it more than his collab with Rihanna last year. Another song that was originally part of the Top 100.
BEST ANTHEM EVER· WINNER
One word. Empowerment.
AVRIL LAVIGNE · Here's To Never Growing Up "They say just grow up but they don't know us. We don't give a f*ck and we'll never gonna change."
