I see Queen Lorde has ruffled a few feathers. Get that hit thread for having an unpopular opinion, Lorde.
But really, it's not that deep. She's always been a bit cynical about the lyrics of some songs, not just Lana, which is shown by the lyrics of "Royals" but it doesn't mean she doesn't respect them as artists. She's said that she's a fan of rap music despite their lyrics of their extravagant lifestyle which she feels she can't relate to. She's entitled to her opinion and some of you are way to quick to judge her based on a few words in an interview. And are some of you really saying that Lorde is promoting/writing about drugs? Please get your facts right before making such assertions.

Good god, this thread is still going.
Honestly, I don't give two ****s what Lorde thinks about Lana's writing. I find her comment a bit unfortunate since she actually likes Lana. Furthermore, I think we should be over the state of women telling other women what is right and what makes you good example, independent or whatsoever. Feminism should be all about the freedom of a woman expressing whatever she wants to and make your own choices.
Both ladies are doing great on their own terms career-wise. I just hate it when people try to artificially create a thing out of a comment.
Yes, you can have an opinion with 16. Opinions change with the time. Of course, Lorde is unable to see that cause she simply lacks life experience to realize it, but she will get there.

What? BTD and the extended EP aren't loaded with depressing-love songs like "Without You". Bruno has just as many, if not, more than Lana does on his album.
Women in general are indirectly told to be timid with their music. These male rappers and musicians can go about singing the most ridiculous mess - one example recently being Rick Ross actually talking about RAPE and Wayne degrading Emmit Till in his verse. No one says anything when it's a male because it's expected, but it's a different story for a woman.
Again, these musicians are...musicians. Not baby sitters. They aren't obligated to cater to their ~younger fanbase~.

"No one says anything"? I remember hearing quite a bit about Rick Ross and those lyrics. If I'm not mistaken, Reebok dropped him because of the controversy. He didn't get away with anything.
Anyway, part of the thing with Lana's lyrics is that they almost seem TOO timid. Like it's written in the 1960s era of gender politics or something. No one's telling people to be timid. There are plenty of female artists with some bold lyrics but most people don't say anything.
She can write whatever she wants, but all Lorde did was express her opinion. She didn't "SLAM" Lana. The fact that people think it's perfectly fine to write that a 16 year old should "sit down bitch" just because she expressed an opinion they don't personally agree with is the real sexist problem here.

Damn I like Lorde even more now.
I like Lana, but she, and some other pop girls, need to stop with this whole submissive things towards men, young girls need to learn how to stand up by themselves in this sexist society, no wonder the rates of rapes and femicides increase every day.

This is true. Though I believe both we're able to capitalize on the lonely. Basically the Twilight of the music industry.

lol. I like Royals but I love Lana Del Rey. She is just shading her because her music style is very Lana Del Rey and then she needs to slam the competition.

Lol why I was reported, I was so misunderstood. I'm not blaming music for rapes at all, that's totally dumb like wtf. I'm saying men and society in general are already f*cked up with their sexist mentality, so women should be able to know when to end a relationship the moment they feel they're being treated badly, no matter if they are in love or they feel like the world would end if they break up. And there are certain female artists that go the opposite way almost embracing that idea of "treat me bad, but I don't care I'll still love you", and I personally think that it's not even ethically correct to be singing about that stuff when the most common reason of rapes and abuses is the sexist mentality.
And I'm completely happy that as a 16 year old woman Lorde gets it.

tired of her already so happy i didnt give ha my coins
some people like to listen to music that is subjective because its relatable to the situation their currently in, she can have something to say about someones music when she sells 2,000,000 albums. Her lyrics sound like lana for dummies anyway.

she's 16 right? probably a little bit immature. I don't necessarily agree with her statement but I see where she's coming from. I like them both I really don't care, I doubt Lana well care either
