Single Review: Mr. Know It All
Just over four months shy of 10 years after winning the first season of American Idol, Kelly Clarkson makes her first official solo release to country radio. Clarkson has already become a house hold name as Pop-Rock superstar with album sales exceeding 21 million worldwide. However this venture into country is not all that shocking. Kelly, a Texas native, has put her foot in the country door on multiple occasions in support of other artists. She has toured and recorded with the likes of Reba McEntire and accompanied Jason Aldean on the ACM, CMA & ACA award winning track, “Don’t You Wanna Stay” in 2010. This new version of Mr. is by far more musically adept than the original and shows off Kelly’s beautiful voice much better. Clarkson’s vocals and the Dan Huffs skillful production make this venture a perfect track for country radio in the current market. I’m not even going to try and predict where this song will wind up though. Statistically it looks very promising, but it is such a unique situation of a superstar venturing into a new market in which they have had some claim prior but not in this capacity makes it a huge wild card. Mr. could go straight to the top and be one of the biggest hits of the year or stop right where it is, I just can’t say. All I can do is hope it does well enough to encourage future country records from one of the most gifted vocalist in all of popular music.
Nice press release from Sony about MKIA (country). Has a picture of Kelly with some people at the label.

SUPERSTAR KELLY CLARKSON RELEASES A NEW VERSION OF HER HIT SINGLE "MR. KNOW IT ALL"
Nashville, TN - RCA recording artist Kelly Clarkson has just released a new version of her hit single, “Mr. Know It All,” written by Brett James, Brian Seals, Ester Dean and Dante Jones, to country radio. Today, it is one of the most-added songs on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart and Country Aircheck.
“Believability is my favorite part about music, from the artists to the musicians,” says Clarkson. “And believability is certainly what draws me, and I’m sure a lot of other people, to country music. The strong lyrics and melodies exude honesty and I think people are always drawn to authenticity.”
“I was born and raised in Texas and I’ve always been a huge country music fan,” reflects Kelly. “In fact, when I was on the first season of American Idol, I begged them to do a country week but they didn’t do that until the second season. I really wanted to sing Reba’s ‘Why Haven’t I Heard From You.’ The sassy female vocalists of country music really inspire me as an artist, namely Reba, Miranda, Dolly and Loretta. Their soulful grit captivates me.
“As a songwriter, lyrics are really important to me,” Kelly continues. “Even when I was a little girl singing into my hairbrush in my room, pretending I was on a stage, the lyrics were what I really paid attention to. I was only sixteen years old when I wrote ‘Because of You’ and sadly enough, that song is a true story. When Reba wanted to record that song as a duet, it was such an honor and a dream come true for me. That was my first introduction into working in country music. Then, I got to record ‘Don’t You Wanna Stay’ with Jason Aldean and it was such an awesome experience. I can’t believe we’ve won two awards for that collaboration. I feel extremely lucky that the country audience has been so welcoming to me.
“At this point in my career, it just felt natural to release a different version of ‘Mr. Know It All’ to country radio,” says Clarkson. “I was so excited when my manager, Narvel Blackstock, told me that Dann Huff was going to produce the new track. I have been a fan of Dann’s for years and he is so talented. Our goal was to create a sassy, soulful vibe. I really hope people like this new version of the song.”
Recently, Clarkson was featured in Entertainment Weekly’s Music Issue, making their “The 30 Greatest Artists Right Now” list.
