Discussion: Is JLo more iconic than Mariah globally?

Globally? Of course! Everyone knows Jennifer Lopez, she has iconic songs and movies, and her butt is iconic too. Mariah has nothing iconic about her outside of her main market, other than AIWFCIY. Here in Italy, anyone could name at least 5 JLo songs (classics such as IYHML, JFTB and LDCAT still get airplay), while Mariah's only remembered song is her Christmas jingle.

The only fact that JLo's latest top 10 hit in many European countries is from this year while Mariah's is from 2009 says a lot. Also, consider their acting careers... JLo is simply on another level. She's one of the most iconic Hollywood celebrities of all time, and you have to be delusional to think Mariah is a bigger brand.

Mariah might be bigger as a singer in the Anglophone and Asian countries, but JLo remains the bigger, more talked about celebrity almost everywhere.

Surely the bigger net worth = the bigger brand?
J.Lo - 320 million
Mariah - 500 million

And yet, nobody has heard of her since 2009. The radios never play anything by Mariah apart from her Christmas song. Jennifer Lopez, on the other hand, has been producing hits steadily since 1999 and there hasn't been one single era here where she wasn't heard of. She disappeared between My All and We Belong Together, and then again after Obsessed - and again, none of her 00s songs had great chart runs. Please don't speak on behalf of Italy if you live in Denmark, lol.

Question: Does J.Lo have anything from her music (or acting career) that will stand the test of time with a yearly resurgence just like AIWFCIY has 20+ years later?
Answer: No
Her career remains based on ha looks. Otherwise, due to ha talent, she'd be drowning in Grammys, Oscars, Emmys, Golden Globes etc etc.

I have to agree. Her relevance in Italy is limited to:
- AIWFCIY
- "I don't know her" (among the gays)
- Being a diva on talk shows
All my friends think her name is Maria Curry like the spice so yeah

Pitbull, which if sung by Betty White couldve sold/streamed just as better. On the floor was a hit because of the rise of dance tracks and that sample lol. U think people listened to that to hear Jlo sing? Did she even sang in those or someone has to sing another generic track for her pathetic ass? And what improvement as a vocalist yall talk about? She came into the scene lipsynching some other bitch's voice and when she did sing on her own, well she might as well gave the mic back to

Mess @ over half of her career gross coming from three films where she played a background character and only provided a voice
Ester Dean, who did minor vocal roles in Continental Drift and Rio, among actual parts in the two Pitch Perfect films, would be a $1.7B grossing starlet with the same criteria

What career did you non singing *** guzzling fraudulent fave killed? Didnt emancipation of Mimi outcharted and outsold Jlo's album form the same time frame? And that was after Jloose debuted and after glitter, not to mention it also won theree grammys and snatched a 14 week long number one, two number ones and song of the decade. Yall be really cosigning weak and unsupported drags like... Im not surprised tho, stanning Jlo for what, not her voice, certainly not her critically panned and uninspired music, or maybe her versatile role in movies where she pretends she's a white woman in romcoms with white parents (sans Selena). Ya girl is nothing but a glorified bronx hooker who got lucky. Yall so obsessed with this vegas thing I mean congats to the ho atleast she won something other than razzies, which my fave also has. Catch up mustards!

Oh dear, I forgot about the Vegas residency. The demand for JLo is truly astonishing even in 2016 when she hasn't had a hit in the US for 4 years
How did the Elusive Chanteuse Show and the Sweet Fantasy Tour do? I don't see any 100% attendances in her receipts

Mariah is a two-time Screen Actors Guild nominated actress, while JLo has never been nominated.

J.Lo also hasn't had a film (that's not an animated feature) gross more than 100M at the US Box Office.

If we can use out own country as the metric of iconicness, then Mariah wins again.
Her biggest hit here per era
MC: Love Takes Time
EM: Emotions
MU: I'll Be There
MB: Hero
DD: Always Be My Baby
BU: Butterfly
#1s: I Still Believe
RA: Can't Take That Away
GL: Never Too Far
CB: Through The Rain
TEOM: We Belong Together
EMC: Bye Bye
MOAIA: Angels Cry
MIAM: #Beautiful
Look at that, every era for 26 years, Mariah Angela Carey has been loved, heard, and bought by the ppl here. <3

And EJQL8 - you live in the Philippines, we know Mariah is huge there. Just like JLo is huge in most of Europe.

Not sure but people are really underrating J.Los fame, shes known by pretty much everyone. Not necessarily for her music, but she is iconic especially for her ass.
