White people have never
categorically been discriminated against, though. The immigrant workers were "hated on" because of their working class by the (white) upper class and Italians were supposedly more likely to be dishonest or criminals, according to other white people.
Also, Italians often have much darker skin that most other white people, which may or may not be a coincidence that white people thought them unsavory.
