I was a good little boy and didn't listen to the Rebel Heart leaks so when Madge rush-released the first six tracks from the album and shot them up on iTunes, I SPRINTED to get my credit card and pun in my digits to get these songs as fast (and as legally ) as possible.
Obviously "Ghosttown" is the third song on the album, and upon first lesson queen came for my weave, my scalp, my skull and even stole pieces of my brain. I was ready for the world to finally and fully embrace the QoP once again, and with a timeless, smash-hit-for-any-singer like "Ghosttown" I was sure the GP wouldn't do her wrong once again.
Sadly, as we know, the single completely blew over despite some pretty heavy promo, and ageism & sexism once again won out. A terrible shame considering how toned down the promo performances where and just how utterly beautiful both the song and video was, but on the upside these performances exist for the fans and we get to enjoy them and the song for now and forever. Thank you Madonna!
I'm A Ruin and Wasted Youth. I like Ghosttown too.
All fantastic songs, we were spoiled in 2015, especially considering most of the girls didn't release anything. Madonna, Marina & Bonnie though. Queens!
First listen was like getting punched in the face, but it feeling 100% amazing and great. Ok I'm 23 and every single, pathetic gay like me probably feels the same, but it's easy and common to quickly lose hope and feel hopelessly alone after a few failed relationships and to start thinking about how you'll be single forever.
However then Madge came along, a 57 year old woman with two divorces under her belt, and she hasn't given up on love, and she's ashamedly still willing to put herself and her rebellious heart out on the line.
I wasn't expecting such an unashamedly, positive, happy-at-core song like "Living for Love" but it really was exactly what I needed from her and I didn't even know it. I honestly think it would make a great tattoo, though I do hate the idea of the word "love" being permanently on my body when I'm not even sure I believe in it 100%. Still, it's a great idea, and the song is stunning. There was something so heart-breaking about seeing Madonna yanked to the ground at her Brit Awards 2015 performance while singing the lyrics:
"I let down my guard, I fell into your arms.
Forgot who I was, I didn't hear the alarm.
Now I'm down on my knees, alone in the dark.
I was blind to your game, you fired a shot at my heart."
