But the boy wasn't doing a project about blackface, he was doing a project about a black man and was supposed to dress up as him, so decided to paint his face. Why shouldn't I ask why people were offended?

Actually, yes. That would've shown how much impact MLK had on blacks and non-blacks as well. A white person speaking on how much they can identify with MLK and his ideas are much more appealing to me than just dressing up as him.

You keep bringing the boy into it, OF COURSE a 2nd grader wouldn't know but his parents couldn't foresee how this would be an issue?

For anyone to be upset that people were upset about this is ridiculous, it isn't your place to tell someone what they should find hurtful or not, while it was intentional by the second grader it may have been to his parents.

Yeah, that was excessive. They should have let him do his project and then pull him to the side afterwards to discuss why the face paint was inappropriate.

They told him to wash his face. He and his parents refused, so they told him to leave. He's not suspended or anything like that. I think the school did the right thing.
