A song is different. Usher's I Don't Mind leaked last June and has just recently become a hit. One song/single can still be worked out to the masses.
We're talking an album that leaked in various forms over the course of 2 months when it wasn't even ready for any type of release. An entire body of work being prematurely judged by potential consumers, not just one song.
Sure, people who planned to buy the album still would but you can't be blind and believe this particular type of leak didn't put a larger dent than usual leaks do. Half of you agree the album is a step up from her last couple efforts but still probably have not bought it because you already have the demos and don't feel obligated because you also got your hands on the super deluxe (an item not intended for even regular sale) almost 2 months early.
There was much more time for this leak to circulate compared to 1-2 weeks normal leaks have. The media coverage did not help.
Y'all underestimate social media. You think us at ATRL are the only ones who care about this stuff, no. You can take a scroll through Twitter and see millions asking for links to albums.
