I love the new rule for letting some of this airplay-loaded hits fall to where they really should be.

Looking through the change, the chart seems more accurate than before. Harlem Shake is most definitely the #1 song in the country right now.

Oh, & would you look at that, Rihanna benefits hugely from the rule change.

Would you please stop complaining about Youtube?

At least on there people CHOICE what to see or hear.

You should complain about airplay power on the Hot 100, that's the only thing that doesn't show popularity amongst the GP as the song are not chosen by them IMHO!

You're saying this to the stans of pop girls. Of course they're mad that their major label's payola isn't going to work as well for getting number ones as they used to.

But at the very least, this will help girls like Rihanna and Gaga more than smaller artists. "Harlem Shake" just happens to be a very special case right now.

Is the internet traffic for the song even remotely as big as it was last week? I'm sure it's diminished somewhat... So "Thrift Shop" should remain strong enough, in terms of airplay, to regain its number one spot once "Harlem Shake" fades out.

Those who are in favor of the new rule will eventually start complaining when these novelty hits/fads takeover for weeks at a time and block their favorite artists and songs, and those who are complaining will be in favor of the rule when their favorites dominate for weeks at a time. After that, Billboard will crush everyone's spirit again by adding another rule. There will NEVER be an "accurate" way of tracking popularity of a song. Billboard can add and delete rules all they want.

The #1 was arguably "Thrift Shop," but certainly there were at least ten other flaws two weeks ago, and there will always be flaws on a chart like this one here where you try to factor in various sources of popularity and music consumption.

It's ridiculous. Songs will now skyrocket on the charts by even more virtue of just being new. Thousands of people will watch a YouTube video out of curiosity, but it doesn't mean the song is popular.

Well, the #1 was probably correct, but what about the other positions in the chart? Billboard will never get it perfect really, I don't think any of us could.

I agree the old formula was pretty good, but especially the situation with Gangnam Style and One More Night showed it needed improving. I do prefer One More Night, but it's so obvious that Gangnam Style was more popular, so the previous formula doesn't work perfectly.

I also feel the previous formula was quite "late" with things. Call Me Maybe had already been huge for weeks before it got to #1 for example, and by its last few weeks at #1 it seemed less popular, but it was still #1 just because radio were so slow to catch onto it.

the fad is just beginning though i can see it being stable in streams, maybe dropping off by a few percentage points. but his sales continue to rise. he'll probably do 320-350K this week in sales, and it looks like pop is jumping aboard
