You must be kidding. I've been to many cities and London has the WORST nightlife after Vienna.
Everything closes pretty early and it's alright at best.
From experience, the best nightlife is in NYC, Madrid, Paris, Milan, Budapest and Prague.
I like London but it's certainly not the best city, it's rather boring compared to much more exciting cities. I live in NYC, but I wouldn't consider it the best either. Overall Paris trumps both of them.
As for most overrated, it's definitely tacky Hollywood/LA.
