I personally see no difference between sex and gender, so regardless of how they feel they will still be biologically one or the other, thus still he or she. This doesn't apply to trans people, for whom I will happily switch to the other pronoun as they should've been the other sex since day one. They sounds too impersonal, I don't know the person at all so I can't even state their gender.
I'd hope my child wouldn't feel the need to identify as gender neutral as they'd hopefully learn that boys and girls are no different beyond sex, and just because you like something girls like doesn't mean you're half female or something.
I'm sure if there was a real desire to be seen as gender neutral they'd be able to educate me on why it's important etc, but the above is my stance right now and I don't care enough to research and change it as it's really not important to me. If we're expected to become experts on every minor issue we might as well scrap everything except social studies the amount of time it'll take.
However "they" is not happening. We all feel like more than one person sometimes. Unless you grow an extra head, you aren't "they."

I would use singular they, considering it's basically already accepted as a gender-neutral pronoun in everyday speech (like when talking about a non-specific person. Most people use they, a few use he/she, and some stuff uses he (older) and she (newer)).
Yeah, If my child wants to be called like this I'm ok with it, it's not like that is going to affect them so whatever there is more important things in this world
