Unfortunately accurate.
I think the general demand for Rih after her longest hiatus yet is what's keeping this song afloat, especially since Work is the closest thing on Anti to what Rih is known for releasing, catchy jams to bop to.
Also unfortunate is the fact that the song has no substance to it, which makes it a hollow song to get drunk to and make stupid snaps to, another silly trend like that awful Harlem Shake.
It also might not feel huge because she's not promoting it much. She doesn't really need to, apparently, since it's still streaming so well. Nobody's gonna bother purchasing it, but streaming is where Rih's power is.
And of course... Drake doesn't hurt its popularity, even though it sounds like he phoned his verse in.
The overall mediocrity of these factors are my best explanation as to why it doesn't feel "huge", though a lotta members in here are saying it does. Radio saturation is one thing, but the song itself doesn't sound much of an event, but evidently it's fillin a hole.
No I think the issue clouding your judgement is how pressed you are.
Work is a smash because it's a great song that is pleasing to a wide range of people and Rihanna is great in it, end of story boo.
... are those actual Work lyrics? I've never been able to make out half of them, nice.
Harlem Shake was #1 for like, 5 weeks, and that song was the pits, but it was used majorly as a novelty song, for stupid little memes and whatnot. I feel like Work is similar in that aspect. People are streaming it, sure, but nobody wants to buy it. And again, just cause Radio is tryna force the song on everyone with its over-saturation, doesn't mean everyone wants it.
When any big artist comes out with their lead single, I feel like they almost always do this, especially if that artist has been in high-demand in the past and has been missing for x amount of years.
Rihanna also has Drake to expand her audience, and she already has a firm grip on the drunk-at-the-bar crowd.
I think my points stand, for those who don't feel like this song is an event, cause it's not like Rih's previous crazy-big singles, it's just as close as any song gets on Anti.
You realize how dead itunes sales are? Work is is at the 1mil mark the the US? In perspective Justin bieber has had 2 massive singles 'Sorry' which is at 2mil and Love Yourself at 1.6mil..
I honestly think Hello from Adele will be one of the last singles to cross the 4mil mark in sales.
Because you don't stan for her. Consequently you resent its success. If it was any of your faves it would be "smash hit, one of her signature songs, career highlight, etc"
But because it's Rihanna you all try to discredit why she racks up so many hit singles
1. I am not from Croatia, I am from another country in the Balkans.
2. I live in the Netherlands so it doesn't matter either way Netherlands is a huge market, but as I already said I am starting to see people talk about it, so we're probably just late compared to the USA and it's normal. But usually Rihanna takes longer to smash in the USA rather than Europe.
And that comment is so wrong. Just because people don't buy music, doesn't mean they don't listen It's important that your fav has hits in those countries, because she may not be selling music there, but she CAN sell tickets.
We have Radio too. Just because people don't buy songs on Itunes, doesn't mean I can't tell if a song is a hit or not
The Netherlands is not a huge market. Stop over inflating their influence.
I hear it in random places all the time. Diamonds and Monster felt like filler #1s to me. Work feels like an unexpected event single from a superstar artist.
