1989 has multiple hits too and US is a part of the world, there's no reason to exclude it (even though 2,6M in 2015 = 4.5M+ in 2007 and that Rihanna got a re-release ).

hmm. Considering ALL of the singles have more than 11 million streams on spotify, I'd say people are still listening to them, thus making them remembered, Mind you, this is an 8 year old era.
Umbrella: 34,000,000 +
DSTM: 31,000,000 +
SUAD: 13,000,000 +
HTILY: 21,500,000 +
Rehab: 21,000,000 +
Disturbia: 30,000,000 +
IINSYFA: 11,000,000 +
& I know that the US is a part of the world, I live there. GGGB is just more Global & did better outside of the US did than 1989 did & will.

Actually, GGGB sold 5M outside the US in 2007 with a re-release.
With the same climate of sales, 1989, which has sold 2.6M so far, would have sold 4.5M+ without a re-release.
1989 wins even WW.
I don't know Spotify but I'm sure a lot of old songs get this kind of amount of plays. Still doesn't change the fact all those songs are forgotten.

Nope. This doesn't change the fact that the vast majority of 1989's sales come from one country (which isn't a bad thing) but GGGB kinda slays 1989 WW. I mean, with the exception of the US & Australia & Japan, Rihanna comes out on top in pretty much every other country.
& No, Old songs on Spotify only get that kind of amount of plays if they made an impact or are remembered. Fact. You probably shouldn't talk about things you don't know about.
Impact is suggestive anyway.
& let's not keep bringing up the year when YOU made the thread.

If 1989 had little to no success outside of America, its disproportionate American success might be a valid argument.

The fact it got a beyond HUGE success in one country does not mean it has to be proportional in each country in the world. It happens that it's the case in the US. Strangely, you guys don't same the same, when, for example, P!nk doesn't have a proportional success as her Australian one.
And of course she comes on top since her album was released 8 years ago (and that it got a re-release as well) when the sales was way higher.
As stated earlier and according to the number of albums sold WW in 2007 and in 2014, 2,6M nowadays = 4.5M+ in 2007.
Thanks for trying.

No, she comes out on top in all of Europe, which holds most of the big music markets. 1989 is still more global due to Asia.

So much impact that you don't even know the correct song title: Don't Stop the Music.

Shake It Off was massive.
And one single can't make an entire era win, mainly when the other one wins albums sales, tour gross and probably singles sales when all said and done.

I witnessed the success of GGGB, for me it felt like it was just another successful album. Other albums were sellng the same or even better which is something you cannot say for 1989.
