What’ll I Do is the first song to leave us in the top ten and yet another one of janet’s seemingly never-ending list of singles. It’s a cover of a 1968 Johnny Daye track of a similar title and employs more pop-rock leaning sound contrasting the smoother R&B/new-jack swing influence of the album.

And even though I called out “Whoops Now” for sounding too different, it’s the same reason why I love this one. #mixedmessages

It’s a bit hypocritical yes, but I love these songs where Janet sounds like she’s just having fun. It’s such an enjoyable track that I can bop along to. That being said I am still surprised at this lasting so long and even making it into the top ten and being honest, it didn't really have any place here...

Dangerous Game employs a more AC-leaning pop approach with a lighter, simple, pleasing production. And that is why it stood out to me (kind of weird in a way).

Its that beautiful simplicity that lets this song shine. One of my favourite things about pop in this time period is the stunning use of instrumentals to create a mesmerizing feeling. Dangerous Game is a good example of this. Its so calming, so brilliantly honest, and so… beautiful.

I was surprised and puzzled to find that Take A Bow is one of Madonna’s most successful US singles having the honour of the most weeks at #1 for any of her singles.

Not that I hate it, in fact quite the opposite, it’s a beautiful albeit slow, R&B ballad that is the musical equivalent of a Bedtime Story (therefore it is fitting as the album closer). The reason why I was so shocked was that it is pretty much the absolute underrated single, always overlooked despite being a beautifully sung ballad (by Madonna) complemented by Babyface’s background vocals. Its like the most sonically pleasing song in this entire rate.

I also may have bumped up my usual 9 to a 10 for nostalgic reasons…
